Pros: Inexpensive, functional, free wireless Internet.
Cons: Shabby. Tired. Dreary.
The Bottom Line: It's inexpensive, but for a reason. You could probably find better accommodations a few miles further away from 'midtown'

| fritz_t_coyote's Full Review: Comfort Inn and Conference Center, Midtown |
I love finding bargains. I especially love finding inexpensive, but fun, places to stay.
On the other hand, I have stayed at a few dreadful places.
The 'Comfort Inn and Conference Center, "midtown" in Richmond VA is not dreadful. It is, however, tired. And a touch shabby. Note that we are not talking about 'genteel poverty' that is so fashionable in the south. Nor are we talking about 'scary and vermin-infested', just a bit worn down and overdue for a freshening.
Physical Plant:
In the hallways and common areas: Walls, floors and ceilings are dingy.
The parking lot has cracks and potholes.
Neighborhood:
This place is using a somewhat creative use of the word 'midtown'. I guess they mean to say within city limits, but not near downtown. It is on the fringes of the urban area, there are plenty of small business in the area, but if you are staying here you need a car to get anywhere of interest.
The parking lot is well lit, despite being overdue for a repaving.
Safety and Security:
The parking lot is well lit, and doors and locks are sound.
Despite the 'downscale' neighborhood, there did not appear to be any crime magnets or high-risk indicators; the neighbors don't have window bars, so I figure it is reasonably safe.
The Room:
The room was clean, and everything functioned, despite being rather depressing.
The TV worked. So did the wireless Internet access.
There was a table and a square-back chair, which was not ideal for extensive work on a computer.
The mattress was firm, clean and comfortable.
The Bathroom:
Good hot water, OK towels. Everything was clean and functional, if a bit worn.
Staff:
You've heard of Southern Hospitality? So have they. But they don't have much of it to go around. The staff was friendly and helpful, the front desk was eager to get things right, or at least close enough.
Food:
They offer a free continental breakfast. The price is right. Nothing to write home about, but the pastry, coffee and juice were fresh and tasty, a perfect start to my day.
Conference and Banquet Facilities are offered, but I did not try them.
Price:
Modestly priced, ok for not-too-picky travelers on a budget.

No
