When I was a teenager I went to Europe and had my first exposure to calamari. For those of you that haven't tried it, I'm not sure if I should tell you what it is. Well, okay...it's squid. I was a little hesitant to try it myself but after one bite I was hooked! Now whenever I go to a restaurant that has calamari, I have to order it. Normally you get one of two kinds. It's either made from a bag of frozen calamari or it's fresh. At Carabba's the calamari is fresh. How do I know this??? Because it has legs! So, not only is it delicious, but it's also pretty entertaining for the kids. The boys think it's so cool to eat something with legs and the girls think it's gross looking but want to be able to tell their friends that they ate it.
Enough about the squid! Carrabba's has so much more to offer. I have been to 2 Carrabba's in the Denver, CO area and one in Tulsa, OK. Each time is as delightful as the last. The atmosphere is nice, the food is freshly cooked and absolutely delicious, and the service is almost too good. The first time we took the kids, they gave them pizza dough to play with at the table while we were waiting for our food. (Pretty brave on their part, but it certainly kept the kids entertained!)
I highly recommend the Pasta Weesie and the House Salad. The Pasta Weesie comes with fettuccine, shrimp, and mushrooms with a very rich white sauce. Delicioso! The house salad has vegetables, olives, cheese, and a wonderful dressing. Recently my husband tried one of their steaks and it was so tender it practically melts in your mouth.
And, as I mentioned, the service is very good too. They keep your glasses filled and check on you often. Sometimes a little too often, but that's better than keeping you waiting!
The price for all of this is very reasonable. We eat out a lot so this is important to me. I'd say that a typical meal with salad, entree, and iced tea or soda is in most cases under $20.
The only negative I have to say about Carrabba's is that they don't take reservations. Sometimes there is quite a wait, so if you don't go to an early or late dinner, you might want to take along a magazine or someone that you really enjoy talking to!
We've eaten at Macaroni Grill and Olive Garden also. Each has it's own specialty. Personally, Carrabba's is my favorite of the three. The menu selection is good, you can watch the food being prepared, the service is great, and so is the price. This is a perfect place for date night or for the entire family. I highly recommend Carrabba's!
