Pros: Price
Cons: "Comfort" Proteins weren't very comforting, formula does not mix well.
The Bottom Line: If you are thinking about switching to Goodstart, don't do it. Save yourself the hassle of extra spit-up (which makes for fussy baby) and endless bottle shaking.

| luvmysoldier's Full Review: Carnation Good Start |
I had originally planned on breastfeeding my son. Due to his prematurity and time spent in the NICU, we had difficulty with breastfeeding and, when he was almost three weeks old, we decided to formula feed.
We started out with Similac, which we used until he was three months old, when we switched to Enfamil. Formula is quite expensive, and we were looking for something that would compliment our budget, so when my son was seven months old, we decided to give Carnation Goodstart a try.
I was drawn to Goodstart because of the low price. A 2lb can of Goodstart was three dollars cheaper than a 2lb can of Enfamil, which we had been using up until that point. Also, I was being sent a ton of coupons from the company that manufactures Goodstart formula. So we bought a can.
The first thing I noticed after opening the can was that the scoop in the Goodstart can was bigger than the scoop in the Enfamil can. So, while the Goodstart formula may be cheaper, you are actually using more for each bottle you make.
The next thing I noticed was that when I added the water to the bottle, the Goodtstart formula rose to the top of the water surface immediately. It did not mix well at all. I had to shake the bottle for quite a while to get it mixed together.
Goodstart boasts the benefits of its 'Comfort Proteins', which are supposed to be gentler on babies' delicate stomachs. It didn't work that way for us. My son started spitting up a whole lot more when we started him on the Goodstart formula. He had been spitting up about once or twice a day while he was on the Enfamil, and as soon as we switched to Goodstart, he was spitting up after each bottle. Twice he actually projectile vomited and threw up the entire bottle immediately after his feeding. "Comfort" Proteins? I don't think so.
After finishing up the can of Goodstart, we made the decision to go back to Enfamil. While the Goodstart formula may cost less, the Enfamil does a much better job of nourishing my son. I would rather pay the three extra dollars per can for the Enfamil then deal with the difficulties of the Goodstart.
