Pros: Powerful, quiet, easy to clean - juices very well
Cons: leaks juice, cannot feed it while running and empty feed tube.
The Bottom Line: After figuring out the machines quirks, juicing is quick. An off-centered feed tube might solve its problems, and would investigate units of that design before purchasing this one.
skiddybz's Full Review: Breville 800JEXL 1000 Watts Juicer
After 10 years of using a poorly balanced Juiceman, my wife decided to purchase a new juicer. She first bought the smaller Breville, but after the first use, I told her to return it, because the waste chute filled much to quickly. She then brought home the 1000 watt!
This juicer is very well built and easy to clean. It is strong and quiet, but it has some major design flaws.
I have experienced the leaking around the wasted chute edges that another reviewer mentioned. My daily ritual is to tear a paper napkin in half, stuff on half of the napkin at the corner of the chute, the other half covers the vent holes of the juice collector. Without the napkins, a little juice sprays out of the waste end and the air pressure from the juice side blows juice out of the vents on the juice pitcher.
Juicing is a little scary with this thing as well. With the Juiceman, I could feed it without worry, but the 800JEXL is not that simple. I realized because the feed tube is centered over the filter cup, it tends to spin round fruits, and twirl things like carrots.
I have to fill the feed tube first, then turn it on. I dare not add anything else to the tube unless the machine is either off, or I have a fruit wedged at the bottom of the tube, allowing me to stack new fruits on top of it. If you don't keep the fruit/vegetable pusher in the tube, stuff will fly back out of it.
My wife will not use this machine on its highest setting.
Also watch out for the metal clip that holds all the parts together. For example, after washing the parts and putting them in the drainer, the natural thing to do is pick the base unit up by this "clip" and move the body to wherever you plan to store it. We keep ours on the counter top, but we juice on the island. Once you let go of the "clip", the thing is very heavy, and when it comes down, it can crack thin tile counter top. It needs a thin rubber sleeve or something to cushion the fall.
