Re: Consistent Resistance or Not? (Reply to this comment)
by jo.com, in Sports & Outdoors
In all fairness to the machine though I have gotten used to bows which I didn't like at first many people do complain about lack of consistency in resistance. This happens to me on the pec dec machine and I hate that feeling. I think it depends on how much weight you use; how long you've been training. There are bow machines you can try out. I think they are all very similar. Jo

Consistent Resistance or Not? (Reply to this comment)
by msivick
I have worked out in the gym and am used to cable machines with weight stacks and free weights. What I'd like to know is whether or not the resistance stays constant with the Revolution as you pull the cable or does it get harder the farther you pull (like traditional resistance bands)?
Please help!! There is no place for me to test this machine. I don't have the time (I actually have the money) to spend on doing the trial period.
So, can you or someone please tell me if the resistant stays constant through out the entire range of the pull from the cable.

by chubbydan
Dear Jo,
Thank-you so very much for your comments and opinions. I value your words and your wisdom. I am going to buy a home gym and I like both the Bowflex Revolution and Bio Force TNT units. Considering value and overall usefulness, which would you choose ? Again, Thank you for your time and advice.
God's blessings to you,

Bowflex Revolution vs. Smith Cage (Reply to this comment)
by shm02
First of all, thanks for such a great review.
My question: Do you think you would get a better workout with the Bowflex Revolution or a cage with a smith system (to do presses and squats alone)? For argument's sake, say the cage is pretty comprehensive with a lat pulldown, low row, and a bench that allows for leg extensions and leg curls. This may be a tough question, but any input you might have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.

That I can say yes to. Again I don't love bows - some do and think they get a super workout. I prefer the feeling of the Revolution. :) jo

Thanks again for your prompt respnse. By better I mean did you feel as if you were getting a better workout than the other models? For me it would mean a feeling as if I was lifting weights.
Thanks

Yikes!!! what do you mean by better? It is really very different thus Bowflex's name for it. I like it and probably would buy it over the traditional Bowflex but please rely on other reviews as well as mine and if you can see it please do. But again what do you mean by better...is it better constructed? Well it doesn't use bows but the bows are guaranteed for life. jo

I just had one final question. In your opinion is the Bowflex Revolution better than the other bowlflex models?

I really do like it a lot. The reason for the 4 stars rather than 5 were
1. the price
2. the lack of a traditional lat and squat station. jo

I don't have the capability to do that many back exercises or leg exercises. THat was a major reason why I'm considering purchasing this machine. on the otherhand I have all of the dumbbells i need. 10 to 80 lbs. I have had this for many years. What don't you like about the bowflex revolution? I appreciate your input

Hi thanks for reading. I gave it 4 stars so blown away isn't the word I would use. I like it a lot. However if you are getting results with your dumbbells, which is more than possible, then the BR will cost you $2500 that you don't have to spend. However if you are at a point where you want more variation, then it is a good investment. For example are you doing squats? or leg extenstions? Most likely not though they can be done with dumbbells but many don't. So to sum this up if you are getting what you need as is then save the money. If not I do like this machine. It isn't perfect thus it didn't get 5 stars. Hope this helps. jo

Is it better than Free Weights (Reply to this comment)
by immtheteach
Hello there,
I'm about to order the Bowflex Revolution with in a week. I have free weights and dumbbells ranging from 10 to 80 pounds with of course a bench. Do you think purchasing this machine will be a smart move? I would use the BF rev. instead of the free weights. Are you blown away with this machine? Any commments would be greatly appreciated.

Your review caught my eye- the lat tower option was a worry for me before purchasing this machine. I am in a place now for the first time in years where I won't have a gym to go to, so I needed something for home that could deliver. I ordered the revolution two days ago- I look forward to it, and thank you for such a thorough review!

You are very welcome. Years and years ago (more than I like to remember) I had one of the first universal type machines whose name I can't remember. It had to be nailed into the wall. I used it but had two little kids at home and was a single parent. I was bartending and would come home and use it at 2:00a.m. while they were sleeping!
I would for sure give up my gym membership if I knew I would use equipment at home and also if I didn't love the classes at the gym.
Enjoy - you can pay it monthly:) jo

Perfect, Jo. Thanks for the review. The price for this machine is 2 years' worth of membership at Equinox on the Upper East Side, but I have a feeling it's worth it.
Now, I just have to scrounge some $$$ together.
Regards,
Jack
