| jo.com's Full Review: Boston Lobster Feast |
In November we took our 3 adult children and one of their friends to the Orlando area. We did eat at the theme parks on occasion, but also wanted to take them to some restaurants they would really enjoy. None of them eats lobster often although they love it, so when we saw Boston Lobster Feast advertised in the multitude of brochures we got, we decided to go.
Just as a tip on when we made time to go, this is what we did: We went on the day we went to Epcot. It wasnt our first time in Epcot so we knew we wouldnt need the whole day and night. We left to eat at 4:00pm (Their hours are unusual anyway.) and then went back to Epcot and at 8:00pm were ready for coffee and pastry and the fireworks.
Location, Reservations, Hours and Parking:
There are several Boston Lobster Feasts in the area. We went to Boston Lobster Feast 192, 6071 W. Irlo Bronson Highway which is in Kissimmee. It is very close to Walt Disney World and only took about 15 minutes to get there. Youll see it next to Water Mania and there is a souvenir/gift shop in the restaurants right hand side. Tip: Don't buy any Disney items in the souvenir shops. Even though you will think they must be less expensive than in the park, I did a lot of comparing and in many cases they are more expensive in the souvenir shops. The exception to this might be in one of the many flea markets in the area but the items may not be official Disney products.
There is plenty of free parking in front of the restaurant.
The phone number is: (407) 396-2606 and their website is: http://www.barharborlobster.com/
The hours are: Mon-Sun 4:00-10:00 pm
You can only make reservations for groups of over 20 people.
Décor and Service:
Boston Lobster Feast is a very casual restaurant. There are no outstanding decorations about which I can tell you. There are two rooms which arent separated and the buffet is in one of the rooms. We sat in the room farthest from the buffet, but the restaurant is not that large so it wasnt a far walk! Smoking is allowed and although there were two rooms, it appeared that both rooms had smoking areas. We asked for a non-smoking area but there were people smoking near us. On a Friday afternoon, though, in November it wasnt very crowded so it wasnt a problem.
We got there at 4:00pm and walked right in, got seated immediately and we all got the buffet. There are other options available and to see the menu go to http://www.bostonlobsterfeast.com/menu/
The waitress came to us constantly to fill up our glasses with lemonade or iced tea and to empty our bowls of lobster shells.
The restaurant and restroom are very clean and in good condition. We chose a booth, not because it was more attractive than a table but because we thought it would be more comfortable.
Tip: Unless there are more than 2 of you at this booth, sit at a table. What will happen if you dont is what happened to us. Every time, lets say I wanted to get out, my husband had to get up since he was on the end and every time my daughter wanted to get out, we both had to get up. We thought of moving a few times, but never did.
The menu:
Although I directed you to a menu page I havent specified that this is an all you can eat buffet which includes lobster, crab legs, sushi, prime rib and other food such as: New England & Manhattan Clam Chowder, Lobster Bisque, Blue Crab, Fried Shrimp & Scallops, Peel & Eat Shrimp, New England Steamer Clams, Fried Clams, Clams on the half shell, Oysters Rockefeller, Smoked Norwegian Salmon with cream cheese, Green Lip Mussels, Salmon in Dill Sauce, Fried & Baked Cod, Seafood Alfredo, Crab Salad, Crab Cakes, Oysters on the Half Shell, Black Mussels, Garlic Crab, Barbecue Chicken, Sliced London Broil, Hushpuppies, Cheese Tortellini, Linguini, Steamed Vegetables, Caesar Salad, Corn on the Cob, Sauteed Mushrooms, Red-skinned Potatoes, Seasoned Rice, Cocktail & Tartar Sauce, Fresh Lemon Wedges, Rolls & Butter, Cheesecake, Chocolate Cake, Fresh Fruit Salad and much more!!! (Based on seasonal availability, some items subject to change)(from the web page).
It appeared that most people who were there were eating from the buffet.
The price of this is 24.95 before 8 29.95 after 8:00pm. That is a lot of money, but you certainly get your moneys worth! I want to note the sentence in parenthesis above. There were a few items that were not on the buffet such as clam chowder. I didnt miss it, but if there is something you really want you might call them to find out if they have it.
Food:
Being from Boston and living on the ocean we know a lot about lobster. One thing I know is that lobsters have to be 1 pound in weight in order for them to be legal. Anything smaller has to be put back in the trap. Having a hard time believing this price was all you could eat, I called and asked if these were chicken lobsters (1 pound). The man who answered asked me where I was from and I told him Boston and he said that as a matter of fact that is where these chicken lobsters come from.
As soon as we saw them we knew they were small and I asked the waitress. Sure enough, they are from Canada where smaller than 1 pound is legal. So if you have a problem with eating smaller than legal lobsters by American standards, you wont like these! I concentrated mainly on the lobster, crab legs and peel and eat shrimp and thought they were all very good. The lobster isnt Maine lobster or fresh from our backyard but it was decent. We all enjoyed everything we ate including the desert which is brought over to you and you can order as many desserts as you want.
Coupons:
You will find coupons in brochures you get and once you get to the Orlando area, but if you want a head start, go to http://www.bostonlobsterfeast.com/html/coupons.html where youll find a coupon good for 4 people for a free cocktail, beer, wine or beverage.
In conclusion:
If you are looking for a special treat, give Boston Lobster Feast a try. We werent disappointed and we are lobster aficionados. The kids were in heaven, had their fill and more and then were ready to go back to Epcot.
