safe947's Full Review: Bose Lifestyle 28 Theater System
I was not going to buy this because of the price and some of the negative feedback but I bought this system from a closeout sale. I got it for $700 less which is the only reason I considered buying this system. I thought $2499 was just to much for me to pay.
Setup: The setup was easy, there is a poster drawing that helps you through the process. There is a CD setup that helps you check to make sure that your speakers work properly. Then there is the ADAPTiQ which helps you equalize the system to your room. I am not sure what the ADAPTiQ did if anything. Maybe BOSE can include in the portion of their setup a screen that tells you what the ADAPTiQ is doing for you.
Playback: This system plays all media which made it the choice over the more expensive BOSE 50 system which only plays CD. The fact that this mimicks Pro Logic II (VideoStage II), plays DTS and other formats is a plus. Hopefully BOSE can keep up with the new formats that comes out.
Misses: I had old software when I bought my system. Therefore BOSE had to send me software updates for my system. If you get a system call BOSE immediately and see if you have old software. If so ask for updates. The updated software prevents lockup and other minor errors. I have wires inside my wall so it was easy to hide the speaker wire but I wonder how other people hid their speaker wire. Most of the diagrams do not show speaker wire and the store demos hid the speaker wire very well which can be deceptive if one thinks that it will look the same in their house as it did in the brochure or store. The system does not have a clock which would be nice to have on the face of the system. For $2499 retail you do not get very much functionality. I hate to say it but for that price you could buy individual components and get the best out there. I just happen to get it for a good deal and my wife likes the way it looks otherwise I would have gotten something else.
All in all I am happy with my choice. If I had to do it all again I would buy the same system and I would pay the $2499 retail price, the system has grown on me. If you do not mind the price and you are looking for a sleek design, easy setup, and good customer service then I recommend this system. If you are a pro and know alot about electronics, sound, and other stuff then go buy something else.
