dsnider2006's Full Review: Marita Littauer and Florence Littauer - Wired That...
General:
I got this as a Christmas present from someone I don't particularly like. I think they were trying to give me a hint. It is an easy read if you are into personality types. This book does have a decidedly Christian slant to it. If you are not Christian, you probably will not appreciate this, as it is intertwined throughout the stories that the author tells to illustrate her point. In fact, in the last chapter, she goes through and characterizes people from the Bible.
Format:
There are 10 Chapters: Foundation and Background, Visible Clues, Strengths and Weaknesses, Personality Blends, Emotional Needs, Marriage, Parenting, Communication, Workplace, and Spiritual Life. There are quite a few tables throughout, and the reading is split by various headings and anecdotes.
Content:
The first chapter focuses on the history of decoding personalities to know strengths and introduces the four personality labels: Popular Sanguine, Powerful Choleric, Perfect Melancholy, and Peaceful Phlegmatic. These are based on the Greek belief about humors in the body, which is strange. It does, however, introduce the major personality qualities, the needs of each group, and how to identify your group.
The next chapter is about identifying people based on their behavior. It's not that difficult, but I wouldn't go doing it to people and then telling them what their type is.
In Strengths and Weaknesses, there is a table that describes how each group expresses emotions, acts at works, and with friends. This section is very helpful if you want to identify your own strengths and weaknesses to get the most out of your personality.
Most of the other chapters describe how to know your and someone else's personality type can be beneficial in an sort of communication, but especially at work or in a marriage.
