Coraoccllo's Full Review: Steven Raichlen - The Barbecue! Bible
Steven Raichlen has written a series of low-fat and vegetarian cookbooks. This isn't one of them.
This is simply the one book to have if you ever have any intention of cooking outdoors, by any method, any food, ever. For that matter, most of the recipes can be adapted to indoor grilling, grill pan cooking or even oven roasting. And all of the recipes are simply splendid.
Frankly, I would have read this book even if I didn't like to cook. Raichlen has an easy, conversational style that almost seems as if he is speaking directly to the reader. The anecdotes about various eating establishments around the world make excellent reading, even without the accompanying recipes.
And the recipes! Such food! Not just meat, although meat is understandably the main focus. There are incredible recipes for poultry, seafood, vegetarian entrees, even desserts and breads. And the chapter on sauces is worth the price of the book.
If you happen to enjoy Caribbean food you'll also like Miami Spice, by the same author.
There is also a Barbecue Bible book of sauces and salsas, but I haven't finished it yet. It sure looks good so far--recipes for homemade ketchup and mustard, among others.
