kamel622's Full Review: Sandra Boynton - Pajama Time!
When Sonnys mom mentioned that she was having a hard time getting him to get into his pajamas at night I knew I had a book that might make him want to change his clothes.
Pajama Time! is a clever small board book by Sandra Boynton. This author has such a fun way with words that even if Sonny never did get his pjs on, we had fun reading the book over and over and over.
The Story
When the night time hits the animals in this book know that it is Pajama Time and begin getting ready for bed.
The story goes on to tell the reader about the different kind of pajamas there are.
Now some are old
and some are new.
Some are red and some are blue.
After talking about pajamas it is time to get down and Pajammy.
Pajammy to the left.
Pajammy to the right.
(Jamma, jamma, jamma, jamma P!J!
The final page starts with a loud Its Pajama Time! But the reader is reminded to hush hush until finally Good Night, Sleep Tight ends our Pajammy night.
The Illustrations
The illustrations are very colorful and well done. The animals all walk upright and wear clothing of bright colors.
Some pages use white for the background, while others are done in bright colors of blues, greens, orange and yellow. The pages are a little bit shiny and have the background colors from edge to edge.
The text is a medium black font that is placed on different places on different pages. Some is up at the top, near a drawing, some down across the bottom but it is all easy to see.
My Feelings
The illustrations in this book are whimsical and silly and a large part of what makes the story so much fun. The animals, hippo, cat, dog, moose etc. are drawn in a silly cartoon style and wear pajamas (of course!) and walk upright too. They have very expressive faces and an expressive style too.
The black cover has stars all over it and then a cut out of the moon, through which we can see pig in striped pjs and a red cap. Just seeing the cover makes me umm, I mean the kids want to open this book and see what its all about.
Since Ive added this book to my daycare shelf, Ive also added a new addition to the daycare .a 20 month old little girl who loves this book very much! She tries to say jammy and points to the book letting me know that Cindy wants to hear this book, again. To me that is the best recommendation a book can have.
Oh and Ive asked Sonny if he gets his jammies on when it is time, he says he does, but of course Ill have to ask his mom. I do know that he enjoys hearing this book and loves the last page where the lines are read loud and then lower and lower.
Nuts & Bolts
Pajama Time! is by Sandra Boynton who has published many books that I and my daycare children love. Wonderful books such as The Belly Button Book, Moo Baa LaLaLa and But Not the Hippopotamus.
This small 24 page board book measures 6 x 5 ½ and is a good size for small hands to carry. Workman Publishing published this book in 2000 and recommends it for babies through preschoolers.
The jacket price of this cute book is $6.95 US and $9.95 CAN
