I am quite a tea drinker. I especially love black tea. I thought the idea of mint and black tea together would be something I might enjoy.
What your getting
Bigelow Plantation Mint, is a Black tea with Spearmint added to it. Those are the only two ingredients. Bigelow Plantation Mint comes 20 bags to a box. The tea bags themselves are individually foil wrapped, and come with a drawstring and a tag that matches the packaging (green).
Steeping Time
Suggested Steeping time is 1-2 minutes. I can go either or on this. I like it lighter or stronger. I normally steep it and then drink it hot. I don't really like mint tea chilled, but there are directions for this on the side of the packaging.
My thoughts
I was expecting this tea to be a bit darker than it was. It was a dark brown in color, but still able to see through it fairly easy. It was almost full bodied, very close.
I love the flavor of black tea, and then mixed with the spearmint was quite refreshing. There was a slight aftertaste, sort of acidic. This is the only reason I am not going to give this tea 5 stars. That tartness really felt out of place. As you sweeten it more, that aftertaste seems to lessen. I actually want to add between 2-3 Splenda's per 6oz of steeped tea to try and get rid of that aftertaste. I don't quite care for this tea unsweetened.
I love the flavor of the black tea. Black tea on its own is very flavorful, mint is a hard herb to cover that aftertaste that you normally get. I think Chamomile might do the trick, but might change the flavor to much. I am not sure how it would go with the black tea. The spearmint minus the aftertaste, was very refreshing and cool. It was also on the light side. The black tea tends to dominate, and only wants the mint to shine through at minimum.

Overall
I really did like this tea, and will recommend as an above average tea. It does have an aftertaste, but can be doctored up with plenty of sweetener. I highly recommend this tea as an after dinner tea in place of dessert. No carbs, no calories, no guilt!
