| moonsista's Full Review: Bare Escentuals Escentual Conditioner for the Body |
When I first met my now-ex-boyfriend three years ago, I was inspired to buy all new fragrances. The fragrances I had at that time reminded me of my then-most-recent-ex-boyfriend. (Are you keeping up with this?) Since I wanted to start anew, I purchased several new fragrances.
Around this time, I watched a Bare Escentuals hour on QVC and purchased a new fragrance that was just begging me to try it - Bare Escentuals Escentual Eau de Parfum. Based on the description of this fragrance, I didn't know what I was getting - but I did know that it sounded incredible!
I Love It! Now Where's The Matching Lotion?
As soon as my new fragrance arrived, I immediately wanted the matching body lotion - as I do with all of my fragrances. I went to QVC.com and found Escentual Body Conditioner - and ordered it right then. I was happy to see that the Escentual Body Conditioner came in a big, 13 oz. bottle - and was even happier when it arrived and smelled exactly like the eau de parfum!
The Escentual Fragrance:
I want to first tell you about the Escentual fragrance. This fragrance is NOT for everyone. There are going to be many women who do not like this fragrance because it is very different. It's not fruity, "foody" or very floral. It is more of a combination of all three - and it does take some getting used to. But once you are hooked, you are HOOKED. And speaking of being hooked, MEN get hooked on this fragrance. I can't tell you the number of times that my then-boyfriend said to me "Why aren't you wearing that other scent today?" I have also had men stop me in grocery stores, in movie lines, in restaurant lobbies and at work to ask me what I am wearing. Some guys at work (who are clearly not interested in me, only in my fragrance) say to me "You're wearing that perfume again!"
According to Bare Escentuals, the "blooming" fragrance is: top notes of jasmine and ylang ylang, middle notes of freesia, melon, pineapple and mandarin orange, and undertones of vanilla, tonka bean, birch and buttery chocolate. It smells like NONE of those individual scents - if I had to tell you what this smells like without looking at the scent list, I couldn't name one of those notes. Also, this definitely is a scent that "blooms" - it is more floral when you first apply it, then fruity mixed with floral, then sort of vanilla-ish and chocolate-ish mixed with floral and fruity as the day/night wears on. (Got that?)
Escentual Body Conditioner Details:
Escentual Body Conditioner is a body lotion that comes in just one size (13 oz.). The opaque, velvety-feeling plastic bottle is 8" tall. The push-down cap is black and will also screw off and on. Thankfully, Escentual Body Conditioner smells exactly like the Escentual Eau de Parfum. So many times, a fragrance's matching lotion does not smell the same (ummm...hello, Origins!).
Ingredients (taken from packaging):
Extracts of chamomile, elder flower, hibiscus flower, calendula and comfrey in demineralized water, aloe vera gel, cetyl alcohol, coconut oil, glycerine, jojoba oil, borage oil, macadamia nut oil, wheat germ oil, tocopheryl linoleate (vitamin E linoleate), tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E acetate), DL-panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), retinyl palmitate and choclecalciferol and corn oil (vitamin A and D3), sodium P.C.A., ascorbyl palmitate (vitamin E palmitate), tocopherol (vitamin E), dimethicone, steareth-21, steareth-2, disodium EDTA, methylparaben, propylparaben, escentual blooming fragrance oil.
My Experience:
I wear Escentual Body Conditioner for two reasons: to extend the wear of my Escentual fragrance and to moisturize my skin. This product does both very well. From the first time you put the pearly, off-white Escentual Body Conditioner in your hands and start smoothing it into your arms and legs, you can tell that this is a high-quality body lotion. It has the consistency of most other body lotions and is not very thick at all. But this does not stop this product from moisturizing well. It definitely keeps my driest areas (knees, legs and elbows) moisturized for at least 8 hours.
The scent of Escentual Body Conditioner "blooms" and changes just like the Eau de Parfum. I have run out of the Eau de Parfum and have used just the Escentual Body Conditioner as an emergency fragrance, and, while it is much lighter in fragrance than it is when it is layered under the Eau de Parfum, the fragrance is still there and "blooms" the same way. A little of this lotion goes a long way - you will not need handfuls of this to moisturize your entire body. You will need an amount that is about the size of a half dollar to cover your entire body.
The generous, 13 oz. bottle lasts quite a long time. I am on only my second in three years. I don't use the Escentual fragrance and Body Conditioner every day, but even if I did, I would probably only be on my fourth bottle at this time.
Price and Purchasing Information:
Escentual Body Conditioner is $18.00 and is available at Bare Escentuals boutiques (see www.bareescentuals.com/boutiques/indexALT.html for locations) or online at www.bareescentuals.qvc.com. I always order my Bare Escentuals products from QVC because there is no Bare Escentuals boutique near me, and because they have a 30-day money back guarantee. So, if you were to purchase any of the Bare Escentuals products from QVC and you didn't like them, you can return them even if they are used, for a full refund. QVC also mails out a full-color Bare Escentuals catalog to all customers who order Bare Escentuals products, which contains limited-edition products and savings on shipping.
