theman61890's Full Review: Backyard Wrestling 2 : There Goes The Neighborhood...
The first Backyard Wrestling game was pretty bad and I only bought it since it was on sale for like 5 dollars. In my opinion the game was not worth the five bucks I paid for it. This game I bought for fifty dollars when it came out, and after a minute of playing it, I was angry as heck.
Graphics 0/10
The graphics are okay at best, nothing really great in this department. The graphics are pretty much the same as they were in the first backyard wrestling game. The wrestlers all look blocky and unrealistic. The environments were all rendered in poor quality and all of the areas you fight in look very similar. Also this game centralizes around the use of hardcore items to make your opponent bleed. Based on this fact why does the blood look so fake. It looks like someone colored in the blood onto the faces of the wrestlers. This game is just pitiful graphic wise.
Sound 1/10
The game features wrestler voice-overs for most of the wrestlers. For the most part, they are done by the real people. But the following used alternate voices Sandman, Kelvin Finn, Ruckus, and Adrienne Pain. All of the voice acting is bad, watching cut scenes were just horrible because you had to hear these guys talk, they all sound like nails screeching down a chalkboard, yes they are that bad.
Another problem is that the sounds of punches, weapons, and other moves all sound very weak and unrealistic. One thing that also perplexed me was how some weapons did not make any noise when you hit someone with it. The game has like a rockish metal soundtrack, which sounds very unappealing. But if your in to that type of stuff you will love the soundtrack as it includes the following artists Insane Clown Posse, Kool Keith, Bad Brains, and Hoobastank. The sounds of the game were just as bad, maybe even worse than the graphics.
Gameplay -10/10
The game is essentially the same as in the first one, but now you can actually block attacks. There's also a new type of environmental attack, appropriately titled an "Enviro-Mental" attack. You can perform these attacks when you have your opponent in a front grapple and are in a hot spot in the arena. A big exclamation point will tell you when you are in a zone to do a environmental move. This is all they changed from the first game. In this game you still are only allowed two characters on the screen at once, there are no tag matches, just singles matches.
The career mode is the only thing that gave the gameplay section some points and not a big fat 0. The story is that The Backyard Wrestling federation has come to your neighborhood and will give one million dollars to anyone who can go through their competition. Career mode consists of ten fighting areas. After you beat all ten level you unlock some stuff like create a wrestler items and such.
There are also bonus missions you have to do during career mode. Like in some matches you are given a specific objective for a match. Some of these include using a Weed Whacker, or just putting your opponent through a car. For objectives like these, you don't even have to go on to win the match, once you do whats ask you can lose the match and still go on to the next objective. I am not even going to lie, the missions were the only reason i even played the career mode since they gave me a sense of what i should do. And thats basically the gameplay mode.
Replay Value 0/10
Replay ability is practically nothing since the career mode is the same for every character. And if you manage to beat the career mode once, you wont dare attempt it again since it will kill you with boredom. If you have a buddy, the replay value is like 5 minutes since it will take you that long to fight in every stage this game offers. There are a grand total of 10 whole different stages to fight in.
