brittany430's Full Review: Apple iPod nano 1st Generation White (2 GB) MP3 Pl...
This past Christmas, one of the gifts I was hoping for was a 2GB white iPod nano. I wanted this because to me it was the best MP3 player out there and it held many more songs than a single CD could. I also hated changing the CDs in my portable player while in the car. When Christmas morning came around, there was no iPod under the tree for me. Instead there was the very tiny Zen nano Plus. The first thing I thought when I saw the Zen nano was, It is nothing like the iPod, and thats what I was really hoping for. I decided I would give it a try, but I still would have been happier with the iPod. Then I decided to exchange the Zen nano for the 2GB white nano. My father then agreed to pay the difference of over $100 for the exchange so that I would be happy. The reason I chose the white one was because I was planning on getting a skin (a tight silicon case that you can keep on the iPod even when you are browsing through the songs or listening to music) for it. I figured that a colored case would look better on top of white than on top of black. I finally got my wish!!! The entire car ride home from Best Buy I kept going on and on about how happy I was to finally have a iPod nano.
The iPod nano comes in a small black box with the picture of an iPod on the cover. Inside this box is another box, which contains the iPod itself along with the following:
1. The tiny, yet comfortable, iPod headphones
2. Two pairs of covers for the headphones ( similar to those that come with most CD player headphones, except much smaller).
3. iTunes software, on CD to download onto your computer.
4. A 1year warranty and software license agreement.
5. USB 2.0 cable to connect it to the computer (used to download music and charge the iPod).
6. A few white Apple stickers (which I kept in the package in case I ever wanted to use later on).
7. Instruction manual to help you with any problems or questions you may have.
The 2GB iPod nano holds about 500 songs, which is more than enough for me. If you think you would need yours to hold more, you should consider purchasing the 4GB iPod nano instead. The iPod nano also holds pictures. Any pictures on your computer can be downloaded just like music. Thats not all, it all so has games! It has the ability to hold notes and contact information. There is a stopwatch and a clock that shows you what time it is almost anywhere around the world and to me that is really cool.
The iPod is my very first MP3 player, so I thought it would be hard to learn how to use it. When I first opened it, I slowly glanced at the instruction booklet and I quickly learned how to do everything with it from customizing a playlist to playing solitaire.
The battery life, for me, is about 3 hours, which is not the best battery life for it to have. For me it usually lasts only one or two days before dying. That is about the only negative thing I can say about the iPod. Every thing else is wonderful. It lets me take 285 songs wherever I go.
The Click Wheel is, to me, one of the most creative ways to navigate through everything the iPod nano has to offer. Apple really came up with a feature that is appealing to everyone who sees it. It makes searching for specific songs so much easier.
The backlight is one of the things that I like the most. It makes it easy to use in almost any situation. In the car, at night, no problem, the light will stay on as long as you are still moving the click wheel.
Downloading music onto the iPod seems complicated but is actually quite simple. I used all of my CDs so far and have not purchased any music from iTunes yet. For CDs,all you have to do is put the CD into the disk drive and it will load onto the iTunes program. Then, you pick the songs you want on your iPod and plug the iPod into the USB port. The songs will then load onto the iPod.
The 2GB white iPod nano, right now, is the hottest item on most wishlists and will probably stay there for quite a while. Its unique design is sure to capture the consumers eye.
The 2GB white iPod nano is not only one of the most popular items on the market at the current time, but is one of the best designed MP3 players I have ever seen.
