Pros: got rid of my headache with one gel
Cons: sorbitol is listed as an ingredient and can potentially upset the stomach
The Bottom Line: Until Advil gets rid of the sorbitol from the Liqui-Gel formula, I will be staying far away from it.

Having a coupon when something is on sale is a good thing, usually. I had a coupon on Advil Liqui-Gels recently, so I decided to try something different than my usual Advil Tablets. I figured it couldnt do any harm and I would just go back to tablets later on if I wasnt satisfied with the result.
Each Advil Liqui-Gel contains 200 mg of ibuprofen as a pain reliever/fever reducer, just like the tablets. This will relieve aches and pains due to a variety of conditions such as colds, headache, toothache, muscle aches, backache, minor pain of arthritis, and menstrual cramps as well as helping to reduce fevers.
When a headache rolled around early one morning, I got up and took one of the Advil Liqui-Gels. Was I surprised about a half hour later when I had a nauseous feeling in my stomach. Nothing actually happened, but I went around for a good part of the day feeling queasy.
As far as how it relieved my headache, it did a good job. I can get some pretty nasty ones that are sinus related, something like a migraine, related to dehydration, or fatigue. The Advil Liqui-Gels worked well on this.
I was nervous about trying it again, but open to it. After all, my nausea could have had something to do with what gave me the headache in the first place. However, I commented to a friend of mine that I was nervous about taking the Advil Liqui-Gels again because they had upset my stomach. He had used a few of mine and said that he had the same thing happen to him. So now I was pretty sure it wasnt an anomaly that I didnt feel well after taking these.
The inactive ingredients in Advil Liqui-Gels are FD&C Green 3, Gelatin, Pharmaceutical Ink, Polyethylene Glycol, Potassium Hydroxide, Purified Water, Sorbitan, and Sorbitol. I have an idea it is the last ingredient that caused my stomach to become upset. I know my father who is diabetic avoids anything with sorbitol, which is a sugar alcohol, in it. It is also used to treat constipation. The little bit that is in one Advil Liqui-Gels might not be enough to cause diarrhea, but it could manage to cause queasiness or nausea in the stomach.

Not everyone will feel the same side-effects from using Advil Liqui-Gels. I have to wonder, though, why try it when caplets or tablets are usually available and do not seem to cause these problems? I think the Liqui-Gel formula really was a miss for Advil and its something that most people should stay away from. I know I wont buy it again under any circumstances unless the sorbitol is taken out of it.
This item is listed as something you can purchase with your flexible-spending healthcare account, something I am now very sensitive to since I use it.
