There are several childrens authors that I try to read everything that theyve written. I think Ive come pretty close to having read all of Sandra Boyntons books and I really enjoy them as much as my daycare children ages 2 7.
A very short 14 paged board book that weve been having fun with is A To Z.
As the title suggests, this is a book about the alphabet. Each letter is represented by an animal and the activity that it is doing.
Each letter is an uppercase letter with an animal on it or near by. For instance for the letter C we see two Cats Cleaning. They are scrubbing the letterC. Near the letter F we see Frogs Frowning.
The illustrations are cartoon like solid black line drawings. All of the animals have very expressive faces and are often standing or doing things that we wouldnt actually see that animal doing, but that makes this book more fun.
Im helping to teach Sonny (4 year old) and Cindy (2 year old) to recognize the alphabet letters and I find this book is very helpful in that effort. Since it is entertaining and somewhat silly they want to spend more time looking at the letters and talking about them which helps them in learning to tell one letter from the other.
Sonny can read and recognize over half of the letters and while Cindy is a bit more limited I do think that she has learned a couple of letters from this book. She especially loves the RabbitsRacing and comments on the fact that the bunnies are wearing shoes.
Sonny likes the Hippos Hiding and remarks that they cant really hide behind that H... it is too small!
Since this is a board book it would be interesting and educational for even the youngest of readers. It is fun and silly which makes it a fun book for children from around 1 year old and up to about 4 or 5 years old.
This is a much older book than we usually read, with a publish date of 1984 by Little Simon, a division of Simon & Schuster, Inc. so of course it a makes a great entry in to Msmorvay's Resurrecting the Oldies 5th write-off. It has a $3.95 jacket price, hmmm wonder what inflation has done to the price since 1984.
Serious silliness for all ages. Artist Sandra Boynton is back and better than ever with completely redrawn versions of her multi-million selling board...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
