I ordered a Meade camera/binoculars for a Christmas present. As an after thought I also ordered a pair of shoes for $30, since it would only cost an additional $2 for shipping. After I received the shoes, I received an e-mail that was a shipment confirmation, with a notation that the camera/binoculars were no longer available. I checked my credit card statement and found that they had charged me $15 for shipping and handling. I e-mailed them and told them I was not happy paying $15 shipping for a $30 pair of shoes. They refunded $5.

This was our second experience with Heartland America, confirming the first, and making us wonder, what were we thinking?
The first fiasco involved the inconvenience surrounding them sending the wrong product followed by dealing with the butts they call "customer service" there.
This time they sent a clearly used, abused, and completely nonfunctional product (sold as new) yet refuse to provide a postage paid return label.
These are both cases where my son saved up his hard earned money and waited for shipping, only to be disappointed with an inept and unfair company.
He's learning the hard way I guess. My advice to him? "Spread the word."

I placed an order 1/25 for express shipment which they assured me would be delivered by 1/31. I called them 2/2, shipment was on hold. I was grilled with a number of innocuous questions about where I had lived and how old my daughter was. Since I have dealt with them for years without any problems, I asked to talk with a supervisor and the cheeky person I spoke to said she WAS the supervisor! After that, she told me my EXPRESS shipment would be delivered by 2/9--7 days is express? It was a bad experience and I doubt that I will ever shop there again.

I was a "Preferred Customer."

clicked on BUY NOW and was sent to Heartland America. They offered a 2.5" AXION color tv and did not have the NAXA NX-571 as shown on Shopping.Com web page. They did, however show the same price of their diminuative alternate. In fact, after searching for ANY NAXA product on this site only produced 0 items found. Not the way to do business, especially on the internet!

Upon further attempts to buy this item, I clicked on Both Amazon sales sources listed and discovered they ALSO offered a 2.5" hand held color TV. Something is wrong with the links provided here.

Note: also found the same sources offered on other internet collective 'buying' resources offered with the same results.

Buyer Beware! Delivery not bad, order accuracy good, customer service not good. Watch out for ordering customer returns. I got burnt twice. Caption say's This is a customer return it has been quality checked and to be found in perfect working condition. It'll say this on shoes, coins, sun glasses, etc., you name it. Ordered a solar post light with this caption. Well it came, apart and pieces missing as well as the paper shredder that kept stopping in the middle of shredding. Quality checked, (RIGHT). To ship them back would be like paying for it twice. You would think that they would pick up the shipping seeing it was damaged, fat chance. My next order will be from someone that stand's behind what they sell. Not from someone that takes your money and run's! Oh! another one -Factory Serviced and quality checked.

I purchased a compact 1000 watt generator from Heartland America last Fall after too many camping trips where batteries in my camper failed. I got ready to use it last weekend for the first time, but it doesn't work. It runs about three minutes, then turns off. Any electrical load causes it to turn off immediately. When I first bought it, I recommended the same generator to a friend, his doesn't work either. Heartland America will neither replace or refund.

Terrible service.  If there is anything wrong with the product you bought from them, too bad.  They don't even have manufacturer contacts or offer any assistance with the manufactuer should a product be missing parts or have a defect.

I had never heard of this company until a $231.85 debit charge appeared on my bank account. I called the company--they verified that they had no record of me as a customer...looked up the charge and refused to deal further with me..saying I'd have to go through my financial institution. Obviously this company is not verifying security codes or billing address or questioning when shipping address is different. I'd be very careful giving this company my info! I'm in the process of reversing the charge now.

Not a honest and upright company!!! I purchased a product for 49.00 on-line. When I checked out they had added a 30.00 membership fee. I called to cancel the purchase and was informed that I had to wait 48hrs to cancel. This type of business practice should be against the law. I will never do business with them again.

I purchased a Memory Plus Cool Pillow which was advertised to be much cooler and more comfortable than a conventional one. The product I received did not even come close to the product description. It was every bit as hot as a regular pillow and did not exhibit the characteristics of memory foam, more like regular rubberfoam. I sent it back, having to pay the return UPS myself. I eventually received a refund for the initial purchase price including shipping, but was not refunded my return cost of almost $10.
Basically I had to pay $10 to discover that Heartland America does not advertise truthfully.

My experience with this company have been frustrating and disappointing. I placed an order and paid with a check. When the order finally came, it was one item instead of two. Customer service would not send me another item but insisted I return the single item with their return slip, which I did. They claim it was never received. Ray, the alleged customer service supervisor was unwilling to help and was quite rude. Unless this is resolved fairly, I intend to cause as much trouble as possible for these people.

My husband ordered a set of outside solar lights.  They were missing parts when delivered, and when he contacted customer service he was told that he had to repackage them, and return them insured at his own cost, and only then they would send him a replacement.  This is an unacceptable way of doing business.

Beware-
I bought 4 goose down pillows. When the box arrived I wondered why they sent only one. Actually there were 4 in the box, to give you an idea of the amount of fill in each pillow. I then bought a electric blanket and a electric shaver and a refurbished computer. Thats when things went bad. The refurbished computer would not work. Sent it back as they said another one would be sent. The second computer arrived, it worked, but was beat/banged up, looked like it had been through WWII and noisy, like a Shermin tank. Gave up on it. Then the electric blanket would not heat on one side properly. After a dozen shaves on the rechargeable shaver, the battery would not charge. Upon opening the shaver I discovered that the battery was soldered in and to replace the battery the shaver would have to be sent back to the factory for a battery replacement. Gave up on that too.
In my opinion, their stuff is seconds that manufacturers are trying to dump. ---Beware----

I recently purchased a new Jules Jurgensen Men's watch from Heartland America. It arrived in a few days, but broken. I called to get an exchange and was told I would need to wait 10 days for a return shipping label. In order to expedite the process I paid for return shipping myself, only to find out the watch was "no longer available" and I was eligible for a refund only. My credit card has still not been credited. I will give it another week or two before I take further action. Yes, they also charge a $2.99 processing fee on top of shipping cost. This was my one and only experience with Heartland America.

I bought a cuckoo clock. It is actually a beutiful looking clock. It hung on the wall for 3 months, and then literally fell apart. It is the roof part that hangs on the nail. The whole bottom part of the clock broke loose from the roof, and the roof was still hanging on the hook. A few inches to the left, and it would have fell on my 5 yr old grandsons head!!!!!!! This thing weighs about 10 lbs.I contacted customer service, and they told me that I would have to call the manufacturer, which is located in China (go figure)!!!! This stupid thing was put together with only a few staples, and built by "assembly line slaves. Heartland America is just another ChinaMart, no better than WalMart. I will NEVER buy from this company again. Customer service was rude.

Dishonest mentions on website regarding rebate. Stated there was a mail-in rebate but turns out it is only a store credit against next order which must happen in a very short period of time.

Customer service claimed I should have checked out the rebate site while ordering despite acknowledging I would not have had enough information to process the rebate.

I was hesitant to order from this company because the website seems like they specialize is cheap, poorly made merchandise. But after declining several pages of "special offers", my order was processed quickly, arrived promptly and in good condition, and seems to work great. Note that although they advertise free shipping, they add on a processing fee, so the total price is a few bucks more than expected.

1. They have a prominent order tracking tab-- good to see-- but when I checked it on Monday four days after I place my order it said the order was on hold--three days and three calls to cutomer service finally got a bright person who actually looked up the order and found that it had been shipped and gave me a real tracking number-- so don't trust the website they don't update it.
2. I prefer to give my cc number to a real person on the phone instead of using a website interface (Heartlands is a little shacky) as the sales rep totalled my order the amount was different -- shipping was higher than stated on the website-- after several cool responses from the rep I ordered it online-- they would not honor the stated shipping cost on the phone. Overall not impressed with their service.

Called customer service for clarification on 'free shipping' note on web page for product. Customer service confirmed that checkout page indicated nearly $20 shipping charge. I said that seems misleading. I was told by him that I was being extreme! I patiently asked to speak with a supervisor. Was put into a queue and hung up after waiting 20 minutes. When comparison shopping on line, Heartland had the product I wanted at a good price and with free shipping. But when I tried to order, the order form consistently showed a $10.95 shipping charge. I called the 800 number, got a very articulate and pleasant representative and the matter was resolved instantly. She took the order and waived the shipping charge. I have ordered from Heartland in the past and have been pleased, even when something went wrong.

Everything I ordered was made in China and not made in the "Heartland America". All junk. Nothing was a good value. My 1250 watt power inverter would not even power 850 Watts. I got around to test it a few days after the return date so they refused to take it back. I am out $80.99 plus shipping. I will never order from them again.

I received the product but thus far am unable to get it to work. It do not have the capability for CID and CIDCW as stated, don't see the speakphone capability advertised. It looks like this item will be returned. So far as the other item (Camcorder), I have not received yet. I'm disappointed w/that. Not very pleased with this order at all.

There was no invoice in my packages, the rocking chair did not have enough glue so it's not together very well. I was supposed to be able to go online with the invoice number and get a $10 rebate but there was no invoice to be found in either box. The AA batteries are all dead. I had 4 batteries in a screw driver that was starting to spin a little slow and I replaced them with the new batteries from the box I received from Heartland and it hardley moved. I tried to replace the 2 AA batteries in my digital camera (which is why I bought them in the 1st place) and the camera would turn on for about 5 seconds and would not even snap a picture before it would just shut off. Very dissappointing and I'm not even going to bother contacting Heartland because it will be too much of a hassle to get the crap replaced, with most likely more crap. I've tossed both the batteries and the rocker is on the street waiting for garbage day. I won't make the Heartland mistake again though. Hunter Slaton

Their email order response system does not track all of their coupons and discounts. Makes it very difficult to determine whether correct coupon or discount has been applied until order arrives and you can check order total on the enclosed invoice with what actually got charged to your credit card. Really a poor system.

The so-called rebate is only in form of credit on future purchases. If I had known that I wouldn't have bought it. The phone doesn't work and interfers with my computer. The answering machine portion doesn't function but produces an irritating buzz. I am so unhappy with this purchase I will place a review in the site and will never purchase from this company again. I am not even bothering to return it as I am sure they won't refund the money but again only offer store credit - which I would find a waste of time. The order was received on time but I had no way of tracking it as I got no confirmation of the order via email or any other method. I waited for the 3-4 day service I paid for and received it on time. Very poor quality - and don't use this vendor again if you are wise.

I encountered a problem, however, at check-out when trying to use a valid Heartland America (H.A.)coupon. There was no place at check-out to enter the coupon's number. I called customer service and the rep. verified there was no place at check-out to enter the coupon number. The rep. instructed me to email H.A. a description of the problem. Within 24 hrs. or less, I had an email order confirmation that included the coupon's value and the correct amount. The rep. was very helpful and resolved my issue with one phone call and one email from me. I would not hesitate to continue as a patron of H.A.

The DVD/VCR had a very unusual plug that didn't fit my TV. I would have had to buy a cable TV converter to hook it up. No where in the catalog description was this mentioned. The cuckoo clock arrived in good condition, but the cuckoo didn't pop out or the chimes didn't work. I have paid for the return shipping on these items, and I feel that that shouldn't be my responsibility. These two items have made me reluctant to buy any electrical or mechanical products from Heartland, as they are not checked before shipping to it's customers. The phone in operator was not very friendly. I retrieved the message on my cell phone and did not have paper & pencil to copy my order number. The order number that DOES NOT appear anywhere on my confirmation. When I called the phone number I got from the website, the contact was not very friendly and said that she must have that number. I purchased "Pound of Wheat Pennies". The claim was that they were unsearched. The fact is that they were all of ONE date "1952". The only major problem I have is the inability to purchase some of the shoe items listed in the catalog. The sizes are listed, but >95% of the time I receive the message not available. If not available then the sizes should not be listed.
