Great if you can get a signal

by llarry2003 , Feb 06 '03
Pros: Pricing and handsets with latest technology available
Cons: coverage
The main thing to consider - T-mobile is great if you can get a signal. Make sure to really use the test period (I believe it's 14 days) to really see if you'll get adequate coverage in the areas you'll be using it most. Otherwise, get a refund fast!...

T-Mobile/Voicestream has the coolest phones!

by klavier777 , Nov 11 '02
Pros: stylish phones, great whenever minutes
Cons: no off-peak nights, weaker coverage outside of the city
I started this plan back in Sept 2002 and on the whole I am very satisfied with this plan. I use the phone alot on weekends which are UNLIMITED and I get 600 weekday minutes for $39.99 a month. The activation fee ($25) is cheaper than most other services...

Crappy phone and crappy coverage
by danator ,Dec 12 '03
Pros: small phone, customer service OK, not the most expensive
Cons: consistently poor or no signal, not the least expensive, either
I'll make this brief. Between the awful free phone I was given and the terrible coverage, I could rarely get a signal. Inside my own home? Faint or nothing. Outside in the NY metro area? Spotty at best. Go anywhere else? Good luck.

The customer service was OK, but the plan ended (family local) ended up being more expensive than other similar plans. I am switching providers this month.

no problems!
by moire123 ,Mar 01 '05
Pros: good service. good customer service. cheap rates.
Cons: the cheapest only permits for free weekends and NOT free nights.
I have a friend that claims that TMOBILE is the worst service out there. He keeps harping on me to cancel my service and get with his. He said this when he had AT&T -- but he hated that so much that he switched to Sprint. He said it again with Sprint. But he hated that so much that he switched to Verizon. Now he gets cut off every time he calls me from his apartment.

I've used Tmobile at his place and have never had a problem.

He's never tried Tmobile.

I've used it in 3 of the 5 boroughs. No problems.

In Seattle, Washington, Tucson Arizona, Paris, France. No problems.

I've never seen any hidden fees. Sometimes I have to pay overage. And -- at the moment, I only have free weekends, I wish I had free nights, too. But I have the cheapest plan.

I like TMobile, and I ain't afraid to say it!

Not good coverage in Catskills, NY
by ogungrrl ,Aug 10 '04
Pros: Wonderful customer service - always found them to be responsive and helpful.
Cons: I simply have no coverage in my area. Period.
When I signed on to T-Mobile almost 18 months ago, they were great. Great coverage - at first. I could make calls from my house, which is in outlying rural areas.

Now, believe it or not, I have NO bars on my phone. Numerous calls to customer service have no effect, even though they were always friendly and polite. I even got the data plan, as I am a road warrior with laptop. It is useless. I can use nothing and barely make calls. I am paying them $39.99 a month for nothing.

It is a shame because if I had excellent coverage I would certainly stay with them. I have no complaints about T-Mobile otherwise.

T-Mobile works great for me
by mrbeachy ,Dec 26 '05
Pros: good service with many free phones( if u DON'T go to one of their stores)
Cons: sometime drops calls;no service at the far eastern end of long island
I needed and wanted a new cell phone/provider as i was totally fed up with sprint, which is the worst.(this was before the merger with nextel)

several people recommended t-mobile...i didn't go to one of their stores,i went to a kiosk in the local mall picked out a phone i liked.

i've only lost maybe 3 calls in the last 13 months,i have never had a billing problems and have found the customer service to be fine.

Poor Customer Service
by rickmour ,Jul 11 '04
Pros: None.
Cons: Horrible customer service.
Horrible reception. Most of the time my SE T610 displays "No Network" or "No Access". I live in the New York City metropolitan area, not in the middle of nowhere. My partner has a Samsung R225 with T-Mobile and he usually has 1 to 3 bars. T-Mobile refuses to give me another phone model. They will only replace my phone with the same model (which they have and I still get no reception inside my house). Poor customer service. Will go to another carrier when contract is up in a few months.

Major problems with Upstate T-mobile
by miketellsit ,Sep 25 '03
Pros: None
Cons: Customer service and the price is not good if you consider you get nothing!
I used to have Sprint until last year, and tomorrow, (praise the lord!) I am at the end of the worst year of mobile phone service I have ever experienced! T-Mobile should not be allowed to sell their phone sin upstate NY. I drive on the Thruway and Northway (Insterstate 90 and 87) between NYC, Syracuse and Albany and I experience dropped calls on almost every other call! It is very frustrating trying to make a call for business. It is embarrassing too! If you drive DO NOT buy this phone. I'll be honest I bought T Mobile becasue it was the cheapest. NEVER AGAIN! I have heard Nextel and Verizon are best bets for upstate NY. I'll try one of them starting tomorrow!
Best of luck.

PS- I own a Samsung SGH-Q10 Tmobile phone. And I am 99% sure the phone was not the problem....

My Negative T-Mobile Experience
by konfucius ,May 04 '04
Pros: Good Service
Cons: Dishonest cell phone store staff.
My Negative T-Mobile Experience:

The shop I got my free cell phone from charged me processing fee $20 and activation fee $30 and deposit fee $80. So really my phone was $130. T-Mobile charged me second activation fee $35 + tax = $42. So the cost ran up to $172 per phone. This is a very expensive deal for a phone that should be free.

It’s all marketing to get you signed up for a year then you are bound by the contract and can’t change it. Do all cell phone companies add tax to activation fees? I don’t remember this happening last year with my AT&T phone.

Coverage is good in Manhattan and Queens, quality of voice is bad when it rains.
Don’t get phones from 1 way cellular at 183 West 10th Street, Manhattan. They are scam artists and thieves.

WORLCRASS(sic)
by chewjfsh ,Sep 20 '03
Pros: Great Rates...
Cons: The BIG LIE
Don't ever use T-Mobile's WORLDCLASS service unless you enjoy receiving hefty bills. The drop-out calls are incredible and remember it WILL cost you a FULL minute for each drop-out and message retrieval drop-outs are no joke.
Hidden charges abound with this service despite their claim of no such thing in their advertising. Free first 50 text messages, that's one BIG lie. Oh by the way, T-Mobile's International Phone Rental is such a joke that it forces you to try their WORLDCLASS service. People should cancel their agreement with this BLOODSUCKER altogether and kick this German company out of the USA.
And Catherine Zetha-Jones, don't sell your body for these Euro-Pimps, if you have any class at all.

T Mobile - make sure you bring quarters
by mobilemad ,Aug 02 '04
Pros: great prices, great phones, lots of minutes
Cons: Let me know if you find their coverage area
There's a T Mobile commercial airing these days in which a group of campers are reluctant to call for help when one of them is bitten by a bug and appears to be having an extreme reaction. They each complain about peak hour and roaming charges. If our campers in distress all used T Mobile they wouldn't have to worry about peak hour or roaming charges right? Right. They'd have no service period.

T Mobile offers far more minutes per month than any other provider w/ flat monthly fees comparable to all of the others. However, their coverage leaves a great deal to be desired. In major metropolitan areas the signal is acceptable, but not great. Once you leave a major city, good luck. Most major highways, but not all are covered. Even the routes that are covered have large holes w/ no coverage. True you'll never pay extra roaming and you'll have, in most cases, more "whenever" minutes than you could possibly use up in a month.

Bottom line:
If you're a T Mobile subscriber and plan on traveling on or off the major routes... be sure to bring plenty of quarters.

T-mobile has gone to the dogs --- Customer for 3 years
by shawn20598 ,Mar 11 '04
Pros: Good for someone who has plenty of time on their hands
Cons: Bad for someone who doesn't have time to waste
T-mobile has deteriorated year over year in their wireless service and customer service. Although better than ATT in wireless quality in Metro Areas, get ready to spend hours and hours on the phone with customer service.

I have had them for three years. Recently I was getting lot of dropped calls in Manhattan. They reported serious problems with their wireless service in NYC area. Every call I dialed used to drop even before the phone started ringing at the other end. They round it to minutes and I ended up with a huge bill with more than 90% of calls with 1 minute (Dropped calls from customers, family members. Dropped calls when dialing voicemail etc etc). I have spent over 10 hours with Customer Service in past two weeks to resolve this issue. Almost feels like a part time job. Go with Verizon Wireless million times better than T-mobile both in terms of service and customer service.

Poor customer service
by informed99 ,Sep 17 '04
Pros: Reasonable plan rates Excellent phone choices
Cons: Coverage in NYC Horrible customer (non)service
Service reps are often rude, insulting and - uninformed. Service in NYC can be spotty, but nothing is as frustrating as their (lack of) phone and internet support. If you speak with 12 reps not only do you get twelve different answers, you get twelve wrong answers - none who can solve a technical problem. We finally got hold of someone with enough experience, knowledge and caring to solve problem after hours and hours of time spent speaking to reps who have no business in a service role. In my household, due to prior obligations as well as company phones, we have cellular service from AT&T wireless and Verizon as well as T-Mobile - so we have a good perspective on the carriers. None offer great support, but generally - we are much more satisfied with both the coverage and to a lesser degree - the service from AT&T and Verizon. We are switching away from T-Mobile this week.
