Saw it... read it. Basically sounds like an official version of "Don't Panic".

I haven't heard anything about this in a while. What's the latest news?

RE: Acquisition FAQ

The acquisition was completed at the end of August, according to this article. Doesn't sound as though any significant changes are going to be made to Epinions any time soon.

EBay buys shopping.com

This could be really good for reviewers. Particularly if eBay offers links to ratings as part of the eBay shopping experience. . .could also mean they'll totally dismantle the site, but I doubt it!

Keeping my fingers crossed. . ..

It has been stated several times quite definitively that "Ebay loves Epinions" and plans to leave well enough alone. The changes we are most likely to see would be in the way the catalog is organized - making Epinions/Shopping.com match sites like Half.com which Ebay already owns. Of course, they may change existing Ebay sites based on the way things are on Epinions... it remains to be seen.

Obviously you've never worked for a company that was bought by another. "We love [insert name of doomed "junior partner" here] and wouldn't change a thing" is boilerplate PR release.

Look for major changes in upper management and for an eventual migration of the eBay corporate culture. Perhaps that will be a good thing - after all Epinions hasn't much impressed me (and most of the membership, I suspect) with their efficiency.

Technically, Dealtime bought Epinions and not much changed on our end. Scepticism is expected, especially from our members, and the only thing we can do is show you how things are going to remain the same from a functionality standpoint, and should get better from the "efficiency" end. Hopefully we'll show you that soon enough.
