| VeeZee's Full Review: Star Magazine |
Star magazine borders on being a tabloid. I say borders because it seems not to have crossed the line completely into the smut-world of the likes of Enquirer, Globe, Sun, and so forth, although it is fashioned in the same manner, resembling a newspaper of sorts. Star's focus is on celebrities, not 500 pound grasshoppers or three headed people, so it is slightly more readable than the other gossip tabloids.
Like any other tabloid-like magazine, it targets the sensationalists, using headlines that grab the attention of people who buy into them. I admit that occasionally in the checkout line I've scanned the headlines and been motivated to pick the magazine up and flip through it. My experiences with Star have been mainly because my mother buys them, however. Growing up, I'd read them because I read anything and everything, and from time to time when I visit I'll flip through Star.
Star's good points include the fact that, unlike the other tabloids, it is stapled together, making it easier to read because it's less likely to fall apart. Also, the color is nice, the pages are of a paper in which the ink won't easily come off on your hands. Star does a fine job of covering celebrity events, such as showing what they are wearing, who was there, what happened, and so on.
So, if you're big on celebrity news and gossip, Star is one of the best sources of info in those areas, although as to how accurate it is, I can't say. I look at it as more of a fun read.
