If I could choose one camcorder magazine to read, this would be it. Video is my hobby, and I use my computer to store, edit, and distribute my 'masterpieces'. I picked up 3 camcorder mags, DV, Computer Videomaker, and this magazine, Camcorder and Computer Video (CCV), at the bookstore. This is the one I am going to subcribe to. Why?
Every month I have purchased this magazine, there has been an article that sparked my creative interest. Whether it was making a commercial or faking a UFO landing, CCV put things in easy to understand terms. They tell you what you need and how to do common recording tasks. The reviews lean towards the <$1000 consumer camcorders, but they still help me zero in on features to look for. This month I learned about storyboarding, the process of 'drawing' out a script for a video.
At 114 pages, it is a quick read at $3.99. The articles flow much better than the competition. Perhaps it is because I am still a novice, but the articles in CCV are interesting and easy to read. I eagerly page through every issue to take in all the 'candy' at once. The ads in this magazine are the same as any other camcorder periodical, and will lead you to some pretty good prices on camcorder equipment.
On the computer/digital side, you can always find an enlightening comparison of products. This month they review a video editing software package that is only $100! It's not 'the high end', but for amateurs, it is great, and it motivates me to learn more!
If you are getting into video recording or digital editing, pick up a copy of this magazine-I think you will like it!
