"I'd Like to Teach the World To....."

Nov 18 '00

This is part of the "5 Things I Would Change About the World For My Children -- Write-Off" hosted by MiniNut and Arnamenta. I thought a lot about the way I was going to address these issues, was it going to be funny? Was it going to be serious? I took into account the way things are in today's world and the way things might be in the future. The best part of this "Write-Off" was that when I thought about these things, they showed me life can be very complex and in most cases it is the simple things that make people happy.

#1 -- Health

I would like to see an end to all Health Problems: A cure for Cancer, AIDS and other diseases would exist. My children would have a world where everyone could be healthy and live a long life without the fear of disease or chronic pain. Imagine everyone growing old together without the health problems or concerns that exist today. When it became a person's time, they would pass peacefully in the night.

# 2 -- Violence and Crime

My children deserve a life without fear. A world without violence and crime would be a world without fear. Imagine your loved ones being able to go anywhere without the fear of being attacked. If you are walking alone in a parking lot at night, wouldn't it be nice to feel safe when you hear the sound of footsteps behind you? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to send your child outside to play without the fear that they will be kidnapped or shot at? Police Officers would be answering questions about locations and not solving crimes. The world would be a better place to live without the fear of violence.

# 3 -- Trust

I have taught my children to always tell the truth despite the consequences. I feel that they deserve the same respect. To be truthful is to be trustworthy and honorable. It is very important in the world we live in to be able to trust others. It is very easy to be hurt by a dishonest person. Those who are untrustworthy are usually that way because of personal or financial gain. The world would be a wonderful place with nothing but trustworthy people. Imagine buying a car from a car dealer who told you exactly what the car was worth or if it was right for you. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to trust a politician who promises to tell the truth? Or to leave your house unlocked while you run next door to your neighbor's house? A world where everyone is trustworthy would be a much more comfortable place to live in.

# 4 -- Poverty and Hunger

I would like to see an end to all poverty and hunger. A world without poverty and hunger would be a world where everyone could live a happy, long life. A child should never have to wonder "what is for dinner?"

In the United States our poverty is nothing like the poverty in a third world country. However, we still have problems of children going to bed at night; hungry and unhappy. It would be nice for all children in the world to live in a time and place where everyone is well nourished and living content in the country they are in.

# 5 -- Uncertainty

I would love to pass on to my children the knowledge and confidence that they are going to live a happy comfortable life. I would be thrilled to know my children will have the same opportunities and happiness that I have had. The world is a very uncertain place. Part of my concern right now is not knowing what the world will be like in the future for my children. Currently, the world that they will venture into it is still full of danger, conflict, heartache, and numerous other obstacles. Knowing that my children are able to live a rich and wonderful life, would be a blessing.

Health, Violence & Crime, Trust, Poverty & Hunger and Uncertainty are the five things I would like to change in this world for my children. The central ideas behind my theme were safety, well being, and family. The main concern I have for my children is that they live a healthy life without fear. If any of the above ideas happen during their life time it would be a miracle.
