Adult Children Also Hurt By Divorce
Nov 15 '00
Divorce is a hurtful thing, no matter the age of the children. I'm the youngest of the siblings and I was twenty-nine when my parents separated and later divorced. To top things off, I was pregnant. It couldn't have come at a worse time, but then again, when is it a good time to split a family up?
This causes a lot of tension when my brother, who lives out of state, comes for a visit. He always stays at my fathers house, so my mother feels she's getting the short end of the deal. I admit she doesn't get to see my nephew a whole lot. Maybe two or three times out of the week, but that's what happens in divorce.
Then there's the hassle of scheduling everything. Who eats with us tonight, Dad or Mom? Which one will we invite here or there? It's a pain and not something children should have to do. It was much more relaxing and easier before the divorce.
Granted, it may not affect grown children the same as small children. It may not have the same dramatic results, but it definately does affect them. Not much ever seems to be said about it.
