Shoot um up
May 12 '00
From the beggining with Atari, and Coleco, the object of many games was to kill and destroy the enemy. Like in Space Invaders, shoot the little guys, Centipede shoot the lil worm. Now we have way better graphics and aren't just shooting at things and they disapeer. With Mortal Combat, you beat the guy up and then get to do a special fatality (rip something out). What kind of a message is this sending to our children? My 9 year old brother has an attitude problem and his answer to everything is "I'll beat them up", (even though it hasn't happened (yet)) "just like the fatality in Mortal combat"!
There are ratings on games and parents can decide which game THEY want to buy for their children but this isn't helping. Why don't we just tone down the violence a bit, there's too much in the world already. What ever happened to reading books or spending time with the family, away from the tube?
