| jsteve01's Full Review: Roller Coaster Tycoon For Windows |
As a child, do you remember riding in your family car when your parents threatened to turn the car around and go home if you don't settle down? How can you settle down? You're young, excited and you're about to experience the thrills of riding on the biggest and fastest rides at a theme park near you. Let's ride!
The PC game, RollerCoaster Tycoon, is the first amusement park simulation game, created by Hasbro Software, where you can design and build various rides, merchandise stands, and landscapes for your own action-filled theme park. Featuring it's abundance of pre-created rollercoasters, RollerCoaster Tycoon is a game where skill, imagination, and a little patients are used in various scenarios or pre-selected amusement parks. Your job is to construct the overall park set at each scenario. However, it's not as easy as you think. But letting your imagination run is the key to success as the RollerCoaster Tycoon. First, by designing each park, you must attract attention from the park guests. Each scenario has it's own pre-selected park with a goal you must attain. Once you reach the goal of each scenario, the more scenarios are open for you to try.
For each scenario you are allocation a sum of money. As you create your park, this allows an opportunity for you go earn money through park entrance fees, food & drink shop sales, and ride admission fees. There are various marketing techniques and promotions you can set to attract more park attendees. You can also allocate funds into research so your designers can create new rides, shops, and landscapes. Probably the best feature of RollerCoaster Tycoon is the ability to design and develop your own rollercoasters. There are many types of rollercoasters available to you including wooden, mini-steel, stand-up, corkscrew, etc.
Not all things go right for you as your create your own park. Occasionally, your rides do breakdown. Many times your guests get sick, hungry, and thirsty. You may even run out of money or lose you attendance numbers. However, hiring some employees, such as handymen, maintenance, security, and park entertainers to ease some of the problems.
RollerCoaster Tycoon has it's own website so you can exchange rides, add new scenarios and learn for others who play. You can even win prizes for creating the best rollercoasters. RollerCoaster Tycoon has also developed an addition to its game entitled Corkscrew Follies. I haven't used it yet but I understand it's an addition to the game, which include more scenarios, rides, and other attractions. In more recent news, I've heard there is a part 3 to arrive in stores soon. It's called The Evolution of RollerCoaster Tycoon. My guess is that it's another addition to the game. Beware, it's addictive. I put the game away for a few months and now I'm back playing it, hours at a time.
