I picked up this unit after my brother gave me a positive testimony on its performance. I ordered it late November from easybuy2000.com for $87 + $9.25 shipping for a total of $96.25 . I am now in the process of returning it. I really wanted to like this product, but am quite disappointed in the performance for regular CD's. Currently I am using a Panasonic portable CD with a car kit. The Panasonic has a 10 sec skip protection and works great. After substituting my player with the 50 sec anti-skip MpTrip, my CD's skip all the time. I have seen others report problems with CDRW's. I tried burning an MP3 disc on a CDRW and the MpTrip did not recognize the disc at all.
I thought about keeping the MpTrip for the MP3 benefits alone, because even if you look at it as only an MP3 player it is a good buy compared to the other handhelds out there. The only problem for the MpTrip now has competition. When it was the only thing out there it had a chance to survive, with warts and all. Now there is competition and that's where I am going. So here is a summary of pros and cons.
Pros
1.The ability to store so many hours of music on one CD.
2.Very cheap compared to other MP3 handhelds.
3.Actually fits (barely) in that slot under my stereo in my Accord.
Cons
1. Cheaply manufactured
2. Buttons poorly positioned and sized (play button is smallest one?)
3. No apparent way to record MP3's in the order you want to listen to them. Why have a "random" play function when it already is random?
4. Good luck getting it to recognize a CDRW
5. Skips with normal CD's as if it has absolutely zero protection
6. No ID Tag to read song titles
7. No resume feature. Big no-no with so many songs on a disc. (Creating multiple directories can help here as a work around.)
8. 3 second recognition wait between songs
So I thought about keeping this for MP3 use only and swapping it back and forth with my Panasonic CD player when I wanted to play normal CD's, but thought it too bothersome. I want a unit that performs with both regular CD's and MP3's. This time I will skip the Trip.
