| SherLesa's Full Review: VTech VT 9105 900MHz Cordless Phone |
My friend bought me a VTech VT 9108/9105 phone for my birthday. When I first saw the box and saw what the phone looked like I was excited. It looks real nice (mine is the black one), and it isn't very big so I knew it wouldn't take up very much space on my end table. I see that it has 900 MHz and I think "This is nice, I will have longer range on reception". Then my whole world came crashing down as I plug the phone in, charge the battery and start to use it.
I will first give you a list of what this phone has to offer, then I will tell you what I don't like about it.
The VT 9108/9105 comes with...
THE HANDSET,
BASE UNIT
TELEPHONE CORD LINE
AC ADAPTER
BATTERY PACK
AND...THE WALL MOUNT BRACKET IF YOU WANT TO HANG IT ON THE WALL.
The phone features...
TONE/PULSE SWITCH *this switch will switch the phone between TONE dialing and PULSE dialing.
CHARGING LED...*The CHARGE LED illuminates steadily when the handset is in the base cradle to indicate that the handset battery is being charged.
PAGE KEY...*Press the PAGE key to page the handset.
*Press it a second time to cancel the page.
*The base will ring the handset 4 times before ending the page automatically.
*The handset can also cancel the page by pressing the OFF key.
MEMORY...This phone holds 10 memory numbers.
RINGER TYPE...This phone has 4 different ringer types..I only like one of them so this is of no use to me.
RINGER VOLUME *Low, medium, high.
CHANNELS...This phone has....your going to laugh..I don't know how many channels this phone has. I am looking at the user's manual and it doesn't say.
ok..here we go...the things I do not like about this phone.
#1 This phone is not easy to program. You have to go thru a bunch of steps just to program a speed dial number.
#2 This phone does not have an "on/off" switch to turn the ringer off. You know when your child falls asleep on the couch and the ringing phone wakes them up and you get all upset? On the phone I had before I could reach over and switch the ringer off before the first ring was done ringing. On this phone you have to *Press PROG *Press the # key *Press the 5 to turn off the ringer * press the OFF. There you have it...5 steps just to turn the ringer off.
#3 When you are talking on the phone....it will make a noise..and the only way I can describe this noise is...a cannon going off. The person I am talking to can also hear this noise. I have had to hang up the phone numerous times and call the person back to get a clear line. I have plugged a different phone into the same wall jack and have it work fine with no noises. Then plug the VTech phone into a different wall jack and have it make the same noise. SO I know that it is the phone and not the wall jack, or my phone line.
#4 When it is time to hang up the phone, there is a "phone" switch and an "off" switch. I have never seen a phone where you have to hit an "off" switch instead of pushing the "phone" button. It is a pain when a friend that is not used to the phone hits the "phone" button then puts the phone down and walks away expecting the phone to be turned off. I always have to go behind them and make sure the phone is turned off.
#5 As for the longer range for reception. NOT!!! It will fade out when I walk out to get the mail. And the mail box is right in front of my house.
If you have a question or comment for the VTECH staff..feel free to call 1-800-595-9511. And in Canada the number is 1-800-267-7377.
If you need to order or replace the battery you can call 1-800-9-BATTERY. Or order thru the mail. send $19.95 per battery plus $5.95 shipping to VTECH COMMUNICATIONS 8770 SW NIMBUS AVENUE, BEAVERTON OREGON, 97008-7195 USA
I hate to be mean and tear this phone apart, but I can not help myself. This phone was poorly made and planned out. It is not user friendly in any way, and the mental image of a clown flying out of the cannon every time it makes its noise is annoying! If you are looking for a nice easy phone to use, this phone is not the one!
Happy Holidays, and have a good day!
