Don't forget the extras! ----- Opinion on How to Apply to College

The Bottom Line Applying can be hard. Make it easy!
Now when you are writing up a college application, there are a couple of things that you need to keep at the front of your mind before you start writing.
1. It isn't necessarily true that the more you put on the application the better. It usually matters what the things are that you are putting on the application as oppossed to the amount. Such things as the honor roll, or being very involved in student council are ones that stand out. But, merely putting that you were a member of 50 different clubs without explaining your roles in them is not the way to go. If you are going to list a lot of different activities that you participated in during high school, then make sure that they are orderly and descriptive.
2. It has to be neat. If someone at the college thinks that your application is sloppy, then they aren't going to give it a second look. Appearance is everything. Thus you want to keep the application organized, and keep all of the writing within its own little boxes. If you need more space, then use additional sheets of paper. Don't just try to stuff a ton of information into a little space. It won't fly.
3. You must have something worth putting on there. Colleges are looking for well rounded people. That means you need to be somewhat smart, and also involved. The applicants they love the most are those people who are star athletes and also get great grades. A major plus on the applications are things such as school organized sports, drama, or student council. If it looks like you have been involved in a lot of organized events that pertain to the real world, your chances increase 10 fold as to getting in.
4. You must submit it early. The earlier that you submit your applications, the better your chance of getting into the University that you want. Spaces always fill up fast, and if you don't want to be left out in the cold, get it in WAY before the deadline.
And the most important thing, is to sell yourself. Make the University want you above everyone else. Give them a reason to choose you!
