The Bottom Line nVidia reigns as king
3DFX is gone... good! They made their last fatal mistake when they released the Voodoo4500... a card that was too little product for too much money. Their previous fatal mistake was deciding that it was a good idea to release their own graphics cards. The sheer idiocy of that idea was apparent to many at the time... and perhaps more people today.
nVidia deserves to be the successor to 3DFX. By producing consistently high-quality products, nVidia puts itself somewhere that 3DFX never went. The Voodoo banshee was a good card, but the TNT series killed it. 3DFX never produced a product to challenge nVidia past that point.
So, shed no tears for 3DFX, they let us down long ago.
