Pros: Great results and great recipes out of the box
Cons: Bread won't stop sticking to pan and paddle, tricky cleanup (IMHO)
The Bottom Line: No; I'd look for something with easier loaf removal and cleanup.

| lossf's Full Review: Breadman Breadman 1, 1 1/2 or 2 lb. Loaf Bread Mac... |
This is my first breadmaker, but I have had the advice of numerous friends with said appliances. Everybody told me that my first loaf would turn out terribly. But I followed the basic breadmaker advice in the manual and elsewhere (taking accurate measurements, using room-temperature water, etc.), and I'm pleased to say that my very first loaf in the Breadman came out wonderfully. I'm sure that at least part of the credit is due to Salton's design of the Breadman Deluxe Rapid.
I've tried a few other breads from the recipe book in the two weeks that I've owned the machine, and they've all come out just as well-- five or six loaves and not a dud in the batch. It's definitely a massive improvement over store-bought bread!
However, I've had problems getting to that tasty bread so that I can eat it. I understand that it's somewhat common to end up with the paddle stuck in the bread, but I've yet to make a loaf without having to surgically remove the paddle baked into and buried deep within the loaf.
It's also a major operation to get the bread out of the pan. I've tried everything reasonable-- pulling the bread out the moment baking is finished, coating the paddle and the pan with cooking spray... Nothing has helped. It takes a ritual of five-ten minutes of carefully prying with a heat-resistant spatula to get the loaf free.
Also, getting the pan clean afterwards is very tricky, at least as far as I am concerned. You can imagine that, with all of the stuff that seems to be holding the loaf in place, I've encountered lots of "leftovers" in the pan afterwards; getting it off the pan surface without using the forbidden scouring pads takes me a good deal longer than I would like.
Perhaps my unit has a bad pan... or perhaps other breadmaker fans have just learned to live with these annoyances. In any case, mixing the ingredients and making the bread is certainly easy enough, but the post-baking ritual is entirely too tiresome for me. Maybe other users feel differently, but I'm taking the Deluxe Rapid back and looking for a model with a horizontal pan to see if I garner any improvement.
