INTRO
Playstation 2: The memory card. Hows that for a dramatic opening? Lets face it! Without these little boxes of magic we are totally ruined! Imagine you spend hours playing your favorite game, and then you can't save it! Oh Man! Is there a nightmare any worse than that? Well theres no need for nightmares, thanks to the 8mb memory Card from Sony
THE MEMORY CARD
If theres something that cant really disappoint about the PS2, its going to be the controller or a memory card really. And, well, the memory card is brilliant! It doesnt claim to be anything more than it is, it doesnt boast the aesthetical quality and game playing ability of Segas quirky Visual Memory Unit, and yet in this day and age all we really need is a memory card to save games on, and thats exactly what you get!
Its color coordinated with the PS2. Good start, and yet at around $20 many have spit and spewed at the thought of being ripped off. So are you getting ripped off? Of course you are, we all are! How much could it have cost Sony to research, design and produce a 50gram piece of plastic? I really dont know, what i do know is that without them games might as well not exist!
So! what do you get for your money? A memory card that can hold 8 times the amount of the Dreamcast VMU, and probably 8 times the amount of the N64 and PSX memory cards! So youll only ever need one memory card! But you will need one. You see, those sneaky people at Sony have made it so you cannot save your games on the PS2 to the original PS1 memory card! (Aren't they thoughtful!) which effectively means youll have to splash out on a PS2 memory card if you want to save your game progress.
THE DESIGN
The design is simplistic and basic fitting into one of the two PS2 memory card ports. Its tiny, so you may question your motives for spending such an amount of money on such a tiny thing, but its what it does that counts. Its black, and dinky with some wording on it ֲmb and official PlayStation 2 those are basically the main points that Sony wants to get across here! Half the Memory Card slots into the PS2, with the other half remaining visible, so that you can pull it out afterwards. Simple!
