| bouffard's Full Review: Nikon D1X SET Digital Camera |
This camera has it all - high quality, the best lenses, high shutter speeds, fully automatic, fully manual....
I finally made the plunge and forked out the $4000 about 9 months ago. I have not had any regrets. The images obtained from the camera are fantastic. (I have been able to print clean 16x20 prints). The shadow detail and highlight detail in the same photo exceeds my film camera at times - and with a little PhotoShop work, the images are far superior to that of film.
The majority of work I shoot is at the highest quality setting. (Approx 15 meg images). Due to this, I purchased several 1 Gig IBM Micro Drives, which have worked very well. (60 images per drive). The buffer holds 9 images at this quality, allowing you to quickly shoot a sequence of images without having to wait for them to write to the drive.
Simple it is not. I had a similar (F5) film camera, so the controls were almost the same. For someone new to the Nikon D1x, there will be some learning time. The list of features goes on and on; shutter priority, aperature priority, program mode, manual, several flash modes with slow-rear sync, multiple ASA settings - everything the advanced amateur or professional needs.
I would highly suggest this model for anyone wanting the tops in equipment. It is durable (metal) and build to last a lifetime.
