I had wanted to buy a Canon GL-1 Camcorder for a while so I waited until they got discontinued and the new GL-2s came out. I checked on the web and I saw that Abe’s Of Maine had a Canon GL-1 advertised at 1600 dollars, I went to their website and saw that it was Refurbished from Canon. I called them to make sure it was Canon refurbished and not their own refurb, they said it was Canon. Here is what I experienced:
1) Price:
The price was one of the lowest of the web, I knew that it was refurbished, but I am familiar with Canon Refurbished products (I have scanner that works fine). For the money, it was definitely worth it.
2) Selection:
Abe’s has and have always had one of the best selections of electronic products since I have been of buyer of them. They carry numerous manufacturers and a ton of accessories.
3) Site Performance:
The site was functional and very easy to use, the only thing I had a problem with was that I needed to create an account in order to place the order but I find many other websites doing the same thing so I guess it’s not that big of a deal. The site is well organized with clearly defined categories and subcategories.
4) Shipping:
They offer 5 different options, which are UPS Ground, 2nd Day Air, Next Day Air, U.S. Postal Service, and International Delivery. The shipping cost was a bit high but the price was so low that it made up for it.
July 14th: I ordered the GL-1 with an extra battery and some tapes for Ground delivery. Same day got an email confirmation.
July 15th: Got a call from one of their reps. Confirmed my info again for verification, also tried some more accessories. I declined telling him if I had wanted to order them I would have ordered them with my other accessories. He was polite and didn’t get nasty which I actually was surprised at. Told me I would get an email with a tracking number when shipped.
July 17th: Got the email overnight on the 16th with a UPS tracking number. Scheduled delivery date on UPS’s website was the 21st. I live in Michigan so 1 week from New York is fine by me.
July 21st: UPS guy rings my bell at 11:00 am with my package. Exactly what I ordered, no gimmicks, no bait and switch, fast shipment. Not much more I could ask for.
I knew what I wanted and didn’t take anything I didn’t want or need, if you can do that Abe’s is a great place to buy from.
