Pros: cheap if you don't need to make long distance calls, unlimited minutes
Cons: customer service is computerized, static sometimes
The Bottom Line: To sum it up, Cricket is a great plan for those who just want the basics. It is a no frills plan and doesn't require signing a contract.

I decided to get my cell service from Cricket about a year ago, when I got a new job that was an hour away from my house. I didn't need anything fancy, nor did I want to worry about minutes (anytime vs. night/evening). I use a Sam's Club calling card if I need to call long distance, which isn't often.
I got a pretty good deal. I got a Nokia phone, which was retail price $60, for free with a mail in rebate. I also received the first month's service free. There is no contract to sign, you can quit any time without penalty, which is great.
I pay around $36 with tax each month. This includes unlimited, anytime calling within a certain area. Anyone that I would call is within this area, so it works out for me. If you are the type that gives out your cell number as if it was your regular home #, this may not be the right package for you. You do not pay for calls made to you, either.
I could have bought a slightly more sophisticated Nokia, but I would have had to pay about 30 dollars myself. My phone does not have things such as text messaging or voice command.
You can order call waiting, voice mail or caller ID through Cricket. Each service is an extra $5 a month, I believe. You can also get long distance, you just have to add money to your account.
"Can you hear me now?" I have had a few problems with static or disconnections with this service, but not enough for me to quit Cricket and go elsewhere.
I do have one bad story about Cricket. Your payment is due the 24th of each month. A few months ago, I didn't send my check in until the 20th. I think it got there on time, but they didn't process it on time, so consequently, my service was shut off for 2 days until they processed my check. I went to use it one day, and got this message saying that my payment was late, and that it would be turned on within 48 of receiving payment. I was steamed to say the least, because 1. I couldn't use my phone, and 2. because I had to pay a late charge of $15 with my next payment. I tried to call customer service, and you seriously cannot talk to a HUMAN, it is all computerized. I tried everything to get a person, it doesn't work. I think they need actual people to work customer service. I guess it cuts down on costs, though.
