Re: Thank you (Reply to this comment)

I neglected to mention that the surface for running is important, too -- shoes designed for tracks and streets work poorly when used on trails.
By all means, tell your friend to have her feet assessed by someone who knows what he or she is doing. They used to say, "No pain, no gain." Now we say, "Too much pain, still no gain!"

Thank you for a thorough review and providing the web site also. I have a friend who injured her ankle by wearing the wrong kind of shoes at running. This review is very helpful and I will pass it along.

I figure my knees have about 20000 miles on 'em, and only one surgery (not an overuse injury, BTW).
In truth, I miss running in the cold, as I did in my Denver days. I'm not a hot-weather runner: I always say that you can put on more layers to keep warm, but there remains a limit to how much you can take off and stay legal!
I will admit, though, that my cutoff for minimum ambient temperature rose from about -15F to about -5F (-25C to -20C, I think) over the 12 years I spent in Colorado.

You obviously know your stuff... Great information here and I'm happy to report I learned a great deal. Lucky for me though, its far too cold to worry about running, ok, even walking, right now. Maybe in the spring when my willpower wakes up ;)

..in the mid 80s when I was running every day in the streets of Brooklyn, NY wearing standard issue shoes....I re-injured my knee from wear and tear.
Good advice I learned the hard way.

I don't run (Reply to this comment)

But this is still good advice.
It bugs me to see people slapping around in shoes that don't fit! It makes my feet hurt in sympathy.
