I couldn't believe it. I check out the site by accident - y'know, plugging in addresses like http://www.doesthissiteexist.com/ to see if they're real - and loved it from the moment I laid eyes on it.
This was early in 2000, I believe. It could have even been sometime in late 1999. It was a dark, bleak winter for me; being stuck in the house during the rural Pennsylvania winter makes seven days feel like a week, and 30 days like a month. It's terrible.
So here I sat, finger poised on the mouse, ready to strike my left button with extreme prejudice over the right one. It was a simple transaction: $78.00 for a 20GB hard drive. This was when 20Gig was large, mind you. The 60's were about the largest they got at the time. Nothing like the RAID-4's with 2.6TB, 7600RPM.
Then, before I knew what to expect, it happened....
I was hooked.
Since then, I've been ordering everything from cleaning kits and toolsets to full systems to use as mainframes for breech testing and virus research (I'm an Information Security Officer and Forensic Investigator). I've had only two problems in the many orders I've made, and one wasn't even their fault.
The modem that came with one of the systems was faulty, and they replaced it within 36 hours. I hadn't even sent the original back by the time the new one got here. Plus, they paid all the shipping both ways, so I paid nothing.
Secondly, they configured that same system incorrectly, placing 96MB of RAM in there instead of the 128MB that was supposed to be there. I called them up when I realized the error, and this package arrived in about 48 hours. Again, no cost to us in any way, shape, or form. And since RAM is always good to have on-hand, we opted to keep the additional, as well, and paid only $12.
Computer Geeks is by far one of the best places I've done business, and I'll continue to do so until - and *unless* - something better comes along. Occasionally I see a price that's higher than their competition, but it's not common at all. And even though the call isn't toll-free, all customer support and technical support is free.... for LIFE.
What a bunch of geeks.... they must not have anything better to do with their time than to make my life so much easier.
And to those Geeks: Thanks, gang.
