Pearl Fishers Opening Night at SDO: The Boys Are Good, But Siurina Is The Show
by smorg | May 03 '08
Bizet's Pearl Fisher is a gem worth rediscovering. Catch Ekaterina Siurina, Charles Castronovo, and Malcolm MacKenzie at the San Diego Opera this month!

Well, you might still have an opera, but it would be a little more like O Callcuta!

Hiya Talyseon & Arashi! (Reply to this comment)

They should learn to share indeed, Talyseon. :o) But then we won't have opera, though. All the delicious ones involve naughty folks who would knife ya' for the silliest thing. ;o)

Oh, it is a surprisingly traditional staging with this psychedelic set indeed, Arashi. I was glad that the nasty heat-wave we were having had already moved on by Saturday. The singers would have done OK in what little costume they have to wear. All covered up me in the audience would have turned into a steamy bunch of stew by the final curtain, though. ;o)

Thanks a bunch for stopping by. Hope the week has started well your way!

Ciao,
Smorgy :o)

Thanks for another great review! ;-) I wish I could see this show. The visual side seems to be really good, judging by the production photos. I half expected the stage to have some psychodelic columns and stuff but it looks like the staging's quite traditional. And the sets and costumes are Ceylon enough for me, dunno why you picked on it. :-)

Mr. Castronovo seems to be another hunkentenor specimen indeed. Not that I've got anything against... ;-)

Well, gotta have some nap... Take care, matie!
