Fingerhut is Unique

In the old days, they had a catalog. When I was a new bride in the 1970’s, I received a Fingerhut catalog about twice a year. I liked the convenience and the products, although the prices were a bit on the high side for the quality of the merchandise I ordered. But, the really nice feature (that drove the prices up) was that you could finance the amount through the company. In years past, we didn’t use the charge cards as much as people do now. So, on a tight budget, their finance plan was a big draw. They sent you a coupon book with a year’s worth of coupons and each coupon was the total plus interest divided into 12 payments.
When my daughter got her first apartment, she saw a catalog (yes, they still send them although I haven’t ordered from them in years) when she was at my house and decided to order a couple of things from it. She too, liked the payment arrangement. One of the things she ordered was a bedspread set and another was a white Floaki (fur) rug. The domestics/linens sold through Fingerhut is not of the top quality that you would expect with the prices that are charged; but they offer rather unique items that you can’t find elsewhere. The bedspread was an animal print (before animal prints were easily found) and lasted for about three years of constant washings. The rug was fine and was washable but candle wax was spilled on it and it was ruined.
I must mention the finance charges that Fingerhut charges. They are VERY expensive. If you use a credit card, you will save a lot of money! My daughter ended up paying it up in advance because when we sat down and added up how much this offered convenience was costing, it just didn't make sense. I suppose however, that if you don't have a credit card or financially want to distribute payments in smaller chunks, this might be a good option. But, my advice is NOT to use THEIR financing plan.
This year for Christmas my daughter wanted another of the white Floaki rugs for her bedroom. I checked out Fingerhut online and was very impressed with the website and how easy it was to order from.
For one thing, I have a dial up modem. I use AOL. These are two strikes against me getting to and easily maneuvering around to order from many sites. But this is a class act!
Fingerhut has its products listed in a column on the left side of the page called Shop By Department. Some of the categories to explore are Apparel; Appliances; Bed and Bath; Garage and Patio; Kids Stuff; and Sporting Goods. There are other breakout categories as well. They also have a column for their Clearance inventory.
Like most shopping sites, they have a site map that includes Shopping Cart and Order Status. They also send you an email letting you know the status and shipping number of your order. What I truly liked was that once I’d placed an order for the rug (the week before Christmas) they followed up with the email and they called me to notify me of the status the day it was shipped. I actually received it in time for Christmas (although I hadn’t thought there would be enough time to do so.) This was with free shipping! Free shipping was one of the incentives they offered at Christmas. I could choose between 10% off the order or free shipping and handling.
The rug was terrific! It was not as soft as some of the ones I had looked at in other stores, but it was larger and washable (she doesn't have the expense of dry cleaning it) and best of all, my daughter received it in time to open it up for Christmas.
Two important additional features are that they have a spot to click onto if you wish to see and read the site in Spanish. And, they still offer the coupons and financing plan if you don’t wish to use a charge card.
I really think that you’ll enjoy visiting this site and seeing the wide variety of products. You’ll also find it quick and easy to navigate with little download time from one place on the site to the next. All of the instructions for ordering are clearly stated (they even tell you if you should or shouldn’t put spaces between the numbers of your credit card number.) I really wish that some of the larger shopping sites were this easy to navigate and order from. Once again, don’t expect luxury products but for unique and average quality products, you’ll be happy that you shopped at Fingerhut.
