Pros: decent price, still quality game, great graphics, addictive gameplay
Cons: can't compete with future gran turismo editions
The Bottom Line: Buy it if you've not got it! It's cheap, it's addictive gameplay - I'm still playing it three years later!

| spretswell's Full Review: Gran Turismo 1 for PlayStation 1 |
The Gran Turismo series may be in it's third edition, but if you are a bargain hunter looking to snap up a quality game at a knock-down price, then you won't go far wrong by snapping up the original Gran Turismo game from your local video game retailer.
Gran Turismo was released with the original Playstation 1, yet even today, it remains a quality, highly entertaining video game. For those of you who don't know, it's a racing game, but it isn't Formula 1 and it's not a Rally game. It's just a pure and simple racing game.
The game has several modes, each of which is great fun. Simply racing through the streets is fun in itself, but if you have a friend or a family member to play with, then the two-player mode becomes highly addictive as you can have competition races over each of the four great tracks that come with Gran Turismo.
If that's not enough for you, you can play the full Gran Turismo mode. Here, you must first of all earn your license by completing all the manouvers you'd need to drive your car, then you must raise money to buy yourself a car. Don't expect a Ferrari straight away, you'll need to work your way up to be able to buy that.
Once you've got your license and your car, you must then begin entering competitions to win yourself some money and earn a living. This money can be used to maintain and repair your car as well as buying additional items and even a brand new car at the end of the day.
Ultimately, you'll aim to become the Gran Turismo champion but trust me, this isn't easy and it certainly isn't one of these games which is good for a day then tossed aside. Gran Turismo will never reach it's sell by date.
Combine it with a Dual Shock controller and the experience is enhanced, but even with a plain old gamepad, Gran Turismo remains one of the best racing games ont he market.
