A couple of years ago, I was alarmed by some news reports regarding imported flip flop shoes. People were suffering blistering on their feet from wearing them.
And wouldn't you know it...I needed new flip flops!
I searched the Internet, and what did I find? Okabashi.
I was fascinated with these shoes...and impressed with the company's commitment to having a brand made in America, their environmental responsibility, and well...their really cute shoes.
I ordered my first pair of Okabashi's and was excited when they arrived...a lovely pair of aqua blue flip flops. Yes, sometimes I am easily entertained.
The first time I put these shoes on, I thought they felt comfortable, sort of a cushy feeling and like my feet were getting a mini massage. Each pair of Okabashi shoes has hundreds of tiny beads on the sole that rub your feet with each step. It might feel a tad strange at first, but do not give up! Once you become accustomed to this feeling your feet will thank you.
Recently I ordered my husband his first pair of Okabashi's. He wore them for about five minutes and declared he didn't like the way they felt. I, being infinitely more patient and hopefully more wise, insisted he wear them for several hours. He did of course...and I am pleased to report that he just received two more pairs of these wonderful shoes. He keeps one pair at home, and two on our boat. I love these for boating...I feel sure footed when climbing onto the bow of the boat and have not had any incidence of slipping with them on.
While the men's styles are limited to colors of black, brown, and gray the women's and children's lines come in a virtual riot of colors. I now own Okabashi's in aqua, red, pink, and white. And one of these best parts is you can throw them in the washing machine when they get dirty and just let them get scrubbed clean. Let them air dry and you can put them right back on.
Women's styles range from the basic flip flops to shoes with a small heel. Now I can't say I would wear them to a formal event, but if I could get away with it, I would. They are just that comfortable.
And now, it gets even better! Okabashi has recently started a second line of shoes called OKA b. I cannot wait to order my first pair...I could go on and on about how cute these things are, but go have a look for yourself.
Of course, these shoes are not going to cost 99 cents, but for about $15 you can have a product that is made in America, easy on the feet, virtually indestructible, machine washable and extraordinarily comfortable. Okabashi often offers free shipping on orders of three or more pairs at a time. For me, three pairs is a difficult task when I want to order ten!
I am really SOLD on Okabashi's and I do believe these will be the only flip flops I will ever own.
