I ordered a gift certificate online from magmall.com for my wife for her birthday in the amount of fifty dollars. My wife used this gift certificate to order five magazines. The total was $60.87, but my wife used a coupon code to subtract $9.13 from the total, bringing the balance owed (minus the $50 gift certificate) to $1.74.
You can imagine my surprise when our bank showed a deduction of $51.74 from MagMall.com.
So I called, knowing that any reputable company would want to straighten this out.
When I spoke to a representative ( Thursday June 19th 9am PST, he says his name is Carlos). I was told that I ordered incorrectly and I was not allowed to use a coupon code with a gift certificate. To this I argued that I did not see this on the site, and if this was indeed the case, it does not give permission for your company to take an arbitrary amount of money out of my bank account. At this point the customer service representative hung up on me.
I called back a number of times, but no one would answer. One time I called and I heard the phone being taken off the hook, and I clearly heard the same customer service representative say the words: "Fu**ing A***ole" in the background. I am not sure if those words were directed at me, but regardless, this phrase cannot be considered appropriate by anyone with any level of professionalism.
At this point, as you can imagine, I am infuriated. Here we have a company who has $101.74 of mine, and they refuse to have a civil conversation.
I have been swindled, and my only option seems to be to take it up with my bank.
