| meleahk's Full Review: GE Soft White 75 Energy Saver Bulb 49684 |
My husband was given a gift card by his work for Christmas to Target. I do not really care for Target, although lots of people do. I do have to admit though, that I enjoy their wide isles. The nearest one to us is about 15 miles and with gas prices the way they are we try to stay within our area to shop. However, we ventured out recently to spend our gift card and spent over an hour trying to decide what to get. There really is not anything that this store has that I like. But, we managed to figure it out.
One of the things we decided on was the GE Soft White Energy Saver Bulb 75 watt or if you prefer GE Soft White 75 Energy Saver Bulb 49684. With all the encouragement day in and day out to try and conserve where we can and to recycle, slowly but surely our household is trying. I have been looking at these bulbs for sometime and since we have to cut corners so much week to week, (forced savings) we havent spent the extra money on them. Gift cards gifts are a nice way to buy things you would not normally get within your budget!
The Product
GE Soft White Energy Saver Bulb cost about 5.99 and up to 12.99 depending on where you shop and on how many in a package you get. We managed to get a 2 pack for 5.99 in a Christmas special value pack. Works for me! The package says that the bulb will last up to 8 years guaranteed if you only burn the bulb 4 hours at a time. I can believe this because we only use the lamps that these bulbs went into about 2 or maybe 3 hours a day. Bathrooms and bedrooms would be other great places to use these type bulbs as opposed to the hood over your stove, unless you do not leave that light on all night.
The light output is 1200 lumens, which would be 20 watts of energy used with a life of 12,000 hours. Will save 68 dollars per bulb in energy cost if you use the bulbs 4 hours a day. Instant on as well and flicker free. This is a plus.
The GE Soft White Energy Saver Bulb does not put off any glares either. The glow is really nice of this bulb. Soft, just like the package says. GE makes a soft white bulb in regular wattage bulbs and I have always been happy with those and will be with this bulb as well.
Warranty
If your bulb does not last you 8 years you can return it along with your receipt to GE and they will replace the bulb for you. Now, I do not know about you, but I am not going to hold on to a receipt for no 8 years much less the packaging of any product. If it is not for tax purposes forget it! You can read more about the warranty on the package.
Other Stuff
The bulbs do contain Mercury and you should follow your local laws for proper disposal of the bulbs. You can also go to www.lamprecycle.org or call 1-800-435-4448 to find out more information on disposal.
You can also go to www.ge.com for more information about this product and other products they offer.
On the package you will find other important information about this product and the proper use and care.
Installation
Of course installation is a snap! Screw it right into the light fixture and you are good to go! Anyone can do it! Ha! Even me! However, since the bulbs contain Mercury be careful in handling them. Not recommended for small children to handle.
How I Feel
The GE Soft White Energy Saver Bulb actually do give off enough light. When you first turn the bulb on it seems to be a little dim, but within just a couple of seconds the bulbs gets brighter. It is not as bright as a normal 75 watt and of course that is the idea. The living room has more than enough light from the bulbs for our home and we can see to read by very well.
The shape of the bulbs is spiral, like a staircase. They look really nice too. You can certainly spot them on the isles at the store. They are rather white too. More than a normal light bulb or at least the seem to be. I think all the soft white bulbs are this color of white.
Over all I am most satisfied with the GE Soft White Energy Saver Bulb because not only are we doing our part to help out with energy savings, we are doing our part to help out with our light bill each month and this is a much better plus for us. Help yourself and your actually helping others in the process. A lesson in life never to forget no matter the situation.
The GE Soft White Energy Saver Bulb were available in the 75 watt (which is what we got) and 25 watt. I did not see any other wattage available at Target but I think Wal Mart has other wattage to choose from. You can also find them at your local grocery store, hardware store and some dollar stores. As mentioned above, the prices will vary depending on where you shop. I suggest that if your budget is tight like ours and you are trying to figure out what you want to buy with that gift card you got, then buy a pack of these GE Soft White Energy Saver Bulb and help save where you can. And if this cost is within you budget, then buy them anytime or as I now plan do, pick up a pack each month.
I hope that this has helped in some kind of way.
God Bless!
