Rapt in Love – a Christian’s Cloak
What poet could
ever describe it?
What writer could
draft the words true?
What dreamer could
ever envision
The Story of God,
me and you?
The Scriptures have
penned it so richly,
How Christ came
one day to this earth,
The miracle child
whom the Virgin
Wrapped in Swaddling Cloths
after His birth;
How the fields,
with their Blankets of shepherds,
Unfurled
in a chorus of cheers,
Applauding
the voices of angels,
And the Gospel
that chimes
through the years.
It tells how
a thick Shroud of darkness
Curtained
the whole countryside,
how the heavens thundered in fury,
While Jesus was crucified.
People were
jeering and mocking,
And Satan
thought he had won,
But all of hell’s forces
were shattered
By the death of
God’s only Son.
For the walls of the tomb
could not hold Him;
He burst forth
to set all men free,
Snapping their chains
in the wonder
Of His
heavenly victory!
Today His Spirit is seeking
To show us
the reason He died
Was to Cover us
in the Salvation
That flowed from his
spear-pierced side.
He’ll Wrap us in
Love Everlasting,
Enfold us in
endless peace, too,
And Bundle our
hopes and desires
In the Gift
that He gives me and you.
O, hear the
Song of the angels;
They tell
how His dear battered face
Revealed
in the darkness of Calv’ry,
the Cloak
of God’s Wondrous Grace
