Bugaboos cup holder
Bugaboo has finally released a cup holder that will go on the Cameleon, the Gecko, or the Frog stroller! These fabulous strollers have had almost everything going for them except the fact that I could not put my iced soy vanilla lattes down for a moment while pushing my son around. Now I can sigh a breath of fresh air because finally my Cameleon is decked out and complete! But for the almost nine hundred dollars I spent on the stroller, I think Bugaboo should have sent me a complimentary cup holder! I mean, come on!!!! Nine hundred dollars without a place to set my latte???
Some of the highlights :
- Holds up to the range of 23 ounces
- Attaches and detaches easily according to the manufacturer (more on that later)
- Fits the Cameleon, Gecko, or Frog
Some cool features
Okay, you mean besides the fact that I can set my drink down? This cup holder is designed to fit all sorts of cups and drinks up to roughly 23 ounces. I have found this to be true and would go a step further by stating that I have put one of my husbands giant cups from Red Robin in the holder. At around 32 ounces, it barely fit and did not really fit well, but the cup holder did support it fairly securely. For normal 12-16 ounce take out cups or water bottles, this cup holder is brilliant.
The design is refreshing and includes four prong-like protrusions which adjust the grip on the interior of the cup holder. Although they are not made of a rubber-like material, they function amazingly well. The exterior of the cup holder is made up of different shaped gripping clamps to accommodate different sized drinks securely. In addition, it has a solid base with a side well.
Dimensions of the holder: approximately 6.5 by 4.5 by 4.5 inches.
Attaching and using it
..
How difficult can a cup holder be to attach to a stroller? In the end, it was not too difficult, but I must admit that when I opened the box and pulled out a 53 page owners manual, I was frightened! It turned out to be so thick because it was written in six languages, but intimidating just the same! The cup holder ships with two clips that are designed to attach it to the stroller. You only need one clip to attach the cup holder, but because the Cameleon stroller has a thicker adjustable handlebar on the top portion of the stroller, there is a need to provide both clips to Cameleon owners. Bugaboo decided to just throw both clips in when selling the holder.
I have a Bugaboo Cameleon so I was able to put a clip on the adjusting handle bar portion of my stroller. In addition to this clip, the cup holder also ships with a second clip. It is designed for use on the lower portion of the Cameleon frame, or any portion of the Gecko and Frog Bugaboos. They are labeled as clips 1 and 2. Because the cup holder is removable, I went ahead and attached a clip on the bottom portion of my frame for use with my childs drinks as well as a clip on the adjustable handlebar for my lattes. The cup holder then adjusts automatically with the handlebar as I move it back and forth. I can move the actual cup holder between clip locations easily as needed.
The cup holder attaches securely to the clip and has a locking clicking feature. Once it is attached to the clip, it will swivel all the way around indefinitely. This is a nice feature because if you want to reverse the direction of the handlebar, as you flip the handlebar over the stroller seat or bassinet, you can swivel the cup holder so that it will still be in an upwards position.
A few words about easily removable: not right away. The clip is a bit tricky to maneuver at first and sometimes it is difficult for me to take the cup holder off, but with some practice, it becomes easier. I leave the clips on the stroller at all times and for the most part, I also keep the cup holder on. It sticks out a bit if you attach it facing outward and increases the footprint of the stroller, but the cup holder on the top portion of my stroller fits nicely on the interior side of my adjusting handle. It is a much lower profile installation!
The cup holder works really well! I think I might get a second one, too, for the other side. I love the flexibility in use for differently sized and shaped containers as well as the ability to put it where ever it is comfortable for me to use. It is a much more convenient way to use my stroller, and seems like an obviously necessary missed original feature in the Bugaboos. Because of the gripping prongs, the cup holder is excellent at keeping even skinny cups upright when going over bumps or up and down curbs.
A couple of warnings:
Dont attach the clips to any locations that contain moving parts (brake line, etc.).
And secondly, NOT FOR HOT DRINKS - this is important. The plastic is not made for it, but most importantly, the hot coffee would be suspended pretty close to the little guys head. There is a major risk of burning the child if you put a hot drink in these and the holder was designed specifically to exclude hot drinks.
Okay, Okay enough about the cup holder!!!!
Sorry to go on and on, but this was an event for me! Bugaboo coming out with a cup holder for my Cameleon makes our trips out a little less of a juggle. I appreciate the good design and like the convenience. I will probably get another one, but I still think that Bugaboo should have just sent me one!
If you have a Bugaboo, then this is a must have accessory for it! I highly recommend it. You can pick it up for just under $25 at most baby online retailers.
Thank you to MaryTara for adding this to the database for me!
