The Roosevelt Hotel -- Great brunch/atmosphere
Sep 24 '02 (Updated Jul 26 '04)
The Bottom Line Good food, great service, a city landmark -- The Roosevelt Hotel is the place to go for Sunday Brunch.
If you haven't been to the Roosevelt Hotel for Sunday Brunch, you are definitely missing out. It's not the biggest brunch, but it changes from week to week and the food is definitely better than most places in LA (it's been the most consistent over the past 3 years I've been there).
For under $30/person (it sounds steep, but it really is worth it) you have your standards like made-to-order omelets and Belgian waffles, breakfast meats/potatoes, as well as items like jumbo shrimp cocktail, brie w/fruit, and the chef's signature salads (the other hot entrees vary from week-to-week, but I have never eaten anything I did not enjoy).
The service is wonderful! The wait staff has been there for several years and they always try to remember faces, even those of out-of-town visitors that only come in once or twice a year.
The dining room is very comfortable -- you never feel crowded or crammed in. And, you are dining in one of LA's historic landmarks.
My husband and I treat ourselves to the Roosevelt Hotel Brunch about once per month and have always felt we have gotten more than our money's worth. I would definitely recommend it.
For an added bonus, they have a photograph collection on the second floor that chronicles the birth of Los Angeles -- it's hard to imagine that the Hollywood area was once a farm. We take all of our out-of-town guests there -- you should check it out.
UPDATE -- JULY 26, 2004: My husband and I were planning on having brunch at the Roosevelt this past weekend and were told by the hotel that they no longer offer the Sunday Brunch. Apparently, they are under new management and have decided to rework their dining options.
I will provide an update if I hear anything different.
Thank you.
