Pros: Fun, once you get the hang of the controls, it's fairly good.
Cons: Way too short. The multiplayer feels like an afterthought. No tough enemies.
The Bottom Line: Good for a rental, but I don't suggest buying this game.

| ravinglunatic's Full Review: Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter for PlayStation 2 |
After reading a good review of this game, I decided to buy it since I am a Star Wars fan, though Episode I really hurt my love for the movies. Lucasarts has been pumping out bad games based on Episode I, though this one turned out to be decent. The next batch of Lucasarts games will be made by top notch developers, so we can hope for great games coming from them soon.
Controls
The controls take a while of getting used to, and it really doesn't help to start on a canyon level, but after about thirty minutes of trying, I really got the hang of the controls, and was on my way to beating the game in a couple of days. It may be fairly good, but it still doesn't compare to a flight stick.
Graphics
The graphics are excellent, except for the badly rendered characters that Lucasarts made for the game. Most of the ships are fairly detailed, and look great.
Sound
This is one area that Lucasarts almost always gets right (except for the terrible music from Force Commander). The lasers sound right, and the voice acting is done well in most areas. The music is very good, but thats what you can expect from a Star Wars title.
Gameplay
This is where the game doesn't live up to what it should. The enemies are only tough because there are so many of them, but they can all be destroyed easily. There is also an artificial ceiling in the game, that brings your ship down if you go to high, which can sometimes disorientate you, causing you to crash. The game is only 14 missions, plus some bonus missions, and will last about one rental, before you beat the game. There are a total of 4 ships, one secret one that is unlocked at the end of the game. They have different shields, weapons, and maneuverability. I've played multiplayer once, where my friend and I spent about half of an hour just chasing each other with an occasional shot on the other person, but with the shields slowly recharging, neither of us could kill each other. There are only 2 multiplayer levels, a racing level and a capture the flag level. The racing level involves other missions on the way that should have just been left out, while nothing ever gets accomplished while playing capture the flag.
Missions
There is basically two mission types in this game, destroy everything, or protect something. While the protection missions can be a lot of fun, sometimes, it feels like you've already played all of these missions before.
