CompUSA: No free warranty?
Apr 14 '02
The Bottom Line The CompUSA warranty policy on small items is apparently "Buyer Beware." Unless you want to pay more...
I went to my local CompUSA to buy an additional computer keyboard. Several boxes boasted of the unit's quality (nine bizillion keystrokes...) but the CompUSA board (competitively priced at $10) said nothing at all about how long any part of it would work, if ever. At the cashier, I asked just what the warranty was (he had to find a manager for the answer) and learned that the unit could be returned for up to 14 days but after that, there was a $5 warranty charge for a one-year replacement policy!
Not finding a shakedown tactic acceptable, I promptly left the store, walked down the mall, and bought the identical unit (different box, but who are we kidding) for the same price... with a one-year manufacturer's guarantee.
Buyer, BEWARE!!!
