| galileo365's Full Review: SBC Yahoo |
I signed up for SBC Yahoo becaue the thought of paying my internet with my phone bill was appealing,, one bill two services. So convenient,, so you'd think!
Well,, shortly after I signed up, I noticed that they had A LOT of outages. I mean more than once a week and longer than 2 hours at a time. The other thing I noticed is that as far as DSL goes, they were SLOW! VERY slow! I'm not sure what speed, but it was much slower than my previous ISP which was Brightnet.
The tech support was a total JOKE! Anytime they had an outage that lasted more than an hour, I'd call. Before they'd check their status, they'd make me go through the drill of rebooting checking my settings etc. VERY time consuming and pointless! Considering I hadn't touched a setting or even rebooted or anything else, yet the connection just dropped, I'd have to go through the irritating drill. Every time they went through all this they'd always discvover in the end that "Oops,, we have an outage going on,, sorry for the inconvenience"
I remember one night I couldn't get online. I tried everything so I called. I kept getting "invalid password" even though my password was saved and hadn't changed ever. This went on for 2 months. I couldn't get on at home yet they continually billed me just the same. I asked for my password, but they said they couldn't give it to me. I asked them to reset the blasted thing. They did but didn't send the new password..
I finally found out why. I had a year contract with them. It was due to expire in 3 months, but I switched apartments within my complex so I of course switched my phone and net access. Unbeknownst to me, they had cancelled my old account, and started a whole new one WITHOUT MY CONSENT and then restarted my one year contract over. I was going to cancel the account after the first year expired, but was now stuck for a whole extra year of lousy service and continual outages. If I cancelled, I'd be charged a very large fee, so I stayed with them when I really wanted to drop them along with the landline and use cable.
They got my money,, but as soon as my contract expired and they asked me to renew, I told them NOOO WAY! Then the rep asked why. I told the person why and what happened and in the standard Yahoo tradition,, they train their reps to deny any fault at all on the companies part. That wasn't the end of it though.
As if they were retaliating or something, the final bill that was paid kept coming back as unpaid. The phone and net happened to be in my fathers name I paid him for it he'd send the bill in. He had proof that a payment was made (IE. the cancelled check they cashed) So, he mailed it in. Next month he gets a past due notice,, He calls,, they tell him to fax the info in. He faxes it in, they confirm getting it,, all problems solved. WRONG!
The next month they called and threatened to send his account to collections. He had to re-fax the info but this time he issued a warning to them. He told them if he got one more of their attempts to defraud him, he was going to the atty general. Lo and behold,, the harrasment stopped.
If this had been an isolated incident, I wouldn't be so ticked about it, but a friend of mine had his account closed and sent to collectioons because they double billed him. They billed him for his phone and net twice so his bill was double. Then they claimed he never paid them. He showed proof over and over, yet they closed his account and put him in collections. HE SHOWED THEM PROOF OF PAYMENT! They still went after him. I think he should sue them. He just said they can take their service and shove it where the sun don't shine!
Then theres my daughters friend who's parents were double billed and their password changed mid service. They couldn't get into their internet for 2 months were billed for it yet still couldn't get in. SBC/Yahoo claimed they changed their password, but they know they didn't. After their term expired, they cancelled and never went back.
Avoid them at all cost!
