I'll skip all the background info on the car. You can do the research yourself. You probably have already. If you want to hear from an owner (not someone who simply test drove one) about what they like and what they don't like about the Freestyle, read on.
We purchased a base SE/FWD during the employee pricing promotion. The employee price with a 0% loan made it a good deal.
LIKES
This car is all about utility. There's nothing sexy about it. It's not fast off the line, it's not gorgeous, it's not luxurious. While it's still average to above average in those categories, it's really meant to move people or things, safely, without sucking up gas, while still maintaining some dignity over a mini-van. It handles very well, with a good solid feel. The CVT transmission is extremely smooth. Cargo space both with seats up or down is impressive. Plenty of room for passengers. The height is just right for dropping kids in their car seats. 3rd row seat is very easy to pop up or down. Folds flat too. MPG is very decent for its size. It looks pretty good too.
DISLIKES
First off, the name. Honda's not going to roll out a Preloud anytime soon. Ford has the Freestar, why also a Freestyle? I'm not sure which one I'm driving half the time. Anyway, Interior is dull, and dash has a cheap look to it. My old $14K Ford Focus seemed richer inside. The Focus has a better sound system too. Ergonomics could be improved. Radio buttons are awkwardly laid out, as are the vent controls and rear wiper controls. Acceleration is slow off the mark, but passing acceleration is decent. CVT is new to Ford, so who knows down the road? I'm going with an extended warranty.
