Until this month, I have never purchased anything from Vanns.com. I always use epinions or other pricing services and the prices from Vann's frequently seem to be higher (20%) than the lowest market price.
However, this month I was shopping for the highly rated Pioneer VSX-1015TXK 7.1 receiver, and every online merchant I was willing to order from was out of stock. So I ventured onto Vanns.com and discovered that only when an item is added to a shopping cart is the discounted price displayed. This lowered the price to $449 including shipping and the lowest market price at the time was around $410. I was willing to spend the extra $39 to get something from a well rated vendor who publicly advertises that all products are brand new, never-opened goods with USA warranties.
It was an excellent experience.
The free shipping, the email order acknowledgements, the frequent status updates from UPS and the on time delivery were smooth as silk. In addition, Vann's had double boxed the receiver to ensure it would arrive undamaged. The inner box was new, unopened merchandise and, by the way, the receiver is fabulous!
In summary, easy ordering through their web site with good prices and free shipping, great communication via email, no up-sale phone calls or other needless delays and with extra packing and a great product, I'm a happy customer.
For an inveterate price shopper, the extra step to find the real discount price is an added headache, and for that reason, I discount both their customer service and ease of ordering. But I expect to be making the trip to their site occasionally to see if a better price is available.
